FAYETTEVILLE, North Carolina (KTRK) -- A North Carolina home day care is at the center of a massive drug bust.

Police in Fayetteville say they found more than 300 pounds of marijuana, half a kilogram of cocaine and six firearms.

Officers also seized more than $70,000 in cash.

The couple who ran the day care center are now in custody.

The house looked harmless because it was a licensed family child care center.

"Very friendly. They have wonderful kids playing outside like any normal and friendly people. We love this street. We love this neighborhood," a neighbor said.

Police say Victoria Everett ran the daycare center. Now, she and her husband, Reshod Everett, face several drug related charges.

Investigators say in addition to the day care, the suspects used a unit at an Addison Ridge apartment complex to hide and deal drugs.

"I never expected anything of this nature from these young men," neighbor Cynthia Austin said.

Investigators say there's no indication the children had access to or were exposed to drugs at the home day care.

300 hundred pounds of marijuana? Wouldnt that smell like crazy? Idk im not a pot smoker. So maybe im just ignorant.

I bet there's gonna be a lot of folks stationed at Ft Bragg and Pope AFB gonna be disappointed. Fayetteville has been a mini Las Vegas for them since I was a young'n.

^ I grew up next to Fort Campbell, Kentucky (my dad was a military doctor) and Oak Grove, Kentucky is a complete shithole. Nothing but titty bars and drive through liquor stores. Kentucky's liquor sales laws are much more lax than in Tennessee just a few miles away go figure. When I was in high school we'd go there to buy our alcohol and cigarettes because Tennessee raised the drinking age and tobacco to 21 and 18 but KY remained 18 and 16 respectively.

What do you mean by more lax? Isn't it 21 to drink all across the US?

What could be more lax about alcohol sales? Do you mean they sell liquor everywhere/anywhere and not just state-sanctioned stores like the state I moved from?

You really mean 18 year olds can drink in KY? I thought that wasn't legal? Did I burn too many brain cells or something? I have the feeling I'm forgetting something.

^ What I meant by more lax is hours of sales. Also Reagan era legislation connected raising the drinking age with Federal highway funds so once it became obvious to Kentucky that they were losing out on a lot of money they too went along and towed the party line and raised the drinking age to 21. I think Kentucky and Louisiana were among the last states to do so.

Golly gee, guys, I think there's a lesson to be learned here.

Is it:

A) "Think of the children!"
B) Surely The Land of the Free can arrest its way out of any and all demand for politically-incorrect/illicit substance consumption.
C) Criminalizing a substance in popular demand is akin to presenting a silver plate to organized crime which contains on it an enlarged photo of the contraband and labelled 'PLEASE EXPLOIT ME, DEAR' on the back.
D) At least I've got bacon.

Fayetteville is a little town with a shit ton of drugs. Dont get it twisted the cute southern towns got plenty of drugs its just all on the down low cause the penalties are pretty harsg. They call Greenville Little New York down there. Asheville is a hippy town full of every psychadellic and tons of pot and shrooms and shine in those mountains. I miss NC.
