Heroin with a street value of more than £120m has been discovered hidden among towels and dressing gowns on board a container ship.
The National Crime Agency (NCA) said the haul weighing nearly 1.3 tonnes represented the largest ever seizure of the class A drug in the UK and one of the largest in Europe. It was recovered from a container on board the MV Gibraltar after it docked at Felixstowe on 30 August. The drugs were stored in packets labelled as protein powder, which were inside boxes filled with towels and dressing gowns.
After the drugs were removed, officers returned the container to the ship, which continued to Antwerp and docked in the Belgian port city on 1 September, and was driven by lorry to a warehouse in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. As it was unloaded Dutch and Belgian officers police swooped and arrested four people.
Jenny Sharp, Border Force assistant director at Felixstowe, said some of the 1kg blocks of heroin had been stitched inside towels and it took officers nearly six hours to remove them.

anyone who has that much dope to send has that much more, and more. i'm sure they're pissed but theyve likely shipped that amount many times before and have the replacement batch already en route.
 
Quite the haul! You see numbers like this pretty often with cocaine but less so with heroin.
 
What type of heroin was it? Afghan Brown?? China white??


And where did it come from??? Was it produced in Afghanistan and shipped out of a port like Karachi Pakistan??

Seems a little irresponsible to put all your eggs in one basket like that. If this is all refined H with no fentanyl then it's a huge loss. I wonder what size poppy plantation it would take to make this much H.

According to this UN report, 328,000 hectares of poppy fields can produce an estimated 550 to 900 tons (since this the UN I'm assuming that's metric tons) of heroin in a year. Based on this estimate, to produce 1.3 tonnes in a year, you would need between 470 and 780 hectares (1200 to 1900 acres, 4.7 to 7.8 square kilometres, 1.8 to 3.0 square miles) of poppy fields.

That might sound like a lot of space, but it's only three to four times the size of the average farm in the United States.

I wonder what they are going to do with it now that it is seized into their possession ?
What a waste and murder of poppy plants.
And all of that labor and time and effort.

Not to mention the oil and diesel and energy wasted.

That heroin was probably made years ago. The warlords and karzais are sitting on literal tons of heroin. What that's saying about making hay? There is enough finished heroin in the crecent rn to supply Europe for years...this was indeed a large bust but how can anyone say with certainty some of it doesn't make it back to the illegal market
 
waste on this earth is such a Sin. like the grocery store owner pouring bleach on the donuts so the bums won't eat it.
was it tainted ? probably not or it would hav been noxious.
