I love this show. meerkats are freakin adorable. that little scamp courage kicks ass. They actually aren't kats at all, but descendants of mangooses (mongeese?)

anyway, It's awesome because they live complex lives. brothers usurping mating rights with flower (the matriarch), the cutest little litter of pups, and at 2 points a meerkat gets poisoned and makes an against all odds miraculous recovery.

From the ads that I have seen, I can confidently say there NOTHING about this program that appeals to me.

I am sure it's not an educational documentary about the social structures of meerkat populations, and assume it's that same kind of footage, but with 'funniest home video' type squeaky voices dubbed over the top with crude comments like 'gimme that nut'.

Aside from the cute factor, what is it exactly that a first time viewer can expect? Don't get me wrong, it could well be a fascinating program, but the way it is marketed on Australian TV makes housewrok seem more entertaining.

I've only watched one episode so far (has there been more?) but I love the shit. They are such cute little animals, and they seem to have so much personality. I think one of the things that immediately draws me in is the humanising... there are adults, teenagers and babies, and they all act accordingly (I know this just could be good scripting). To be honest though, I think it ahs me hooked cause they are just soooo damn cute. I've always liked meerkats/prarie dogs/those cute little fkers.

adorable show, i love to find such gold like this, that i can enjoy with my kiddies.

cause frankly, i am sick of americas funniest home videos.

I'm watching it 'cause I love meerkats. But it's a pretty damn terrible documentary.

And Shakespeare's gunna be alright godamnit, he's a fighter (we're probably way behind in Australia because the first episode was only on last week).

i mean maybe you dont think meerkats are cute, but still, give it a chance. you feel involved in the lives of these little two-legged standing mini humans

goddamn those guys are cute as fuck

oh no, it's so lame to be interested in a show that gives you insight into the lives of animals that most of us would never get a chance to see in real life.

what do you watch... American Idol? Trading Spaces? lame...

^^^and along that vein, this show has more substance to offer than the majority of network and basic cable tv

plus did i mention those meerkats are goddman cute?

favorite moment so far: when columbus heads out hunting with the adults his first day out of the den.

animal planet is the bomb and even if the documentary isn't the most informative as some of you say, does it really matter.....?

Yeah I watched an episode and it was just way too over-the-top for me. Do they really need to humanise them as much as they do? It just comes across (to me) as being fairly arrogant to sit back and go, 'oh wow! they're just like us!' as if those stupid voiceovers make them more interesting. Animal documentaries are actually interesting enough without having to dumb it down for a generation addicted to reality TV.

Maybe I just don't 'get' it though. Obviously some people like it.

Oh and McLaren, I don't watch Idol and I've never heard of Trading places so, you know, good call.
