Well, my advice to you is to start out small and work your way up. At least, that's what I'm doing. I've been interested in getting equipment for a good year and half now, but haven't been able to save up enough money. Everytime I try, somethign else comes up, so there goes that for a couple months.
Anyways, if you're just starting out, why do you want to go whole hog? Say you don't liek it (it's a possibility I'm aware of. I'm musically trained and have a good ear, but my skills might not be any good), you're stuck with very good equipment. Now, anyone will buy technics off of you, but no one I know pays any where near the purchase price for used ones.
But if you start out small (but not at the bottom), and work your way up, it'll be for the ebst. And if you decide you don't liek it, you can sell it all to a beginner for close to what you payed.
There are two kits available, a gemini and a numark. I'm personally saving up for the numark BATTLE PACK (not the DJ IN A BOX). Has 2 DD's with cartridges, slipmats etc (these dd tables aren't the professionals, but still cost 250 a piece), a better than average starting mixer (with kill switches and gain controls to boot!), cables, speakers, and really cool headphones, for 500 bucks.
there's a gemini one called dj battle kit (all i remember is it had a similar name to the above), which is essentially the same thing only in gemini. mixer isn't as good, but i suspect the tables might be a little better than numark's. plus comes with a video and hat. no headphones. Same price.
