Tryptamines Tryptamine Solution Shelf life

Hey there,

So I've got several solutions of 4-ho-met, 4-ho-mipt and 4-AcO-MET.
They were made using distilled water and alcohol, and have since changed to a much darker colour.

I had been storing them in a dark cool drawer but have since moved them to the fridge.
Are they still safe to consume and should I continue storing them in the fridge or the drawer?

Thanks,

Hey welcome. Have not had much time to post but I can at least take a guess here. It has been said some tryptamines turn dark in color as time goes by. But I believe the a lot of posts said it did not affect potency. I would keep in the fridge.

I am hoping if you do consume you will update this thread so we have more info. I suspect the solutions are fine and they have alcohol in them which is a plus. I have seem people say that their 4-ACO-DMT turned black after some time but still very potent.

Good luck.

Sounds like they should have been in the fridge from the start for future reference but the alcohol is a stable shelf compound for many herbal extract tinctures that last years without synthetic cooling sounds like it translates safely enough

I have never come close to having the capacity for my own creations I am definitely standing upon this in amazemennt

Surely you knew what you were doing I have grown mushrooms and had a coloration concern I understand the mild cause for panic but doesn't sound alarming after all. I mean who knows what the exact shelf life is how long were they in a cool drawer?

Propylene glycol is a better solvent to use for typtamines imo. Less oxygen exposure. If you're going to be taking it out regularly fridge is best it'll keep for a year comfortably. Longer than that then use the freezer.

The dark colour is likely oxidisation. They should still be safe to consume.

I've had 99% lab grade ethanol containing 4-AcO-DMT become completely inert within six weeks of being in a freezer, amber vial, wrapped in tin foil. My advice is to never put 4-substituted tryptamines in liquid.
While I had a solution of 4-aco-dmt suspended in PG stored in an amber vial and then in a margarine tub which I kept in the freezer for over a year with no change in colour or loss of potency which is why methinks H20 is the culprit here.

Even 99% ethanol is 1% water. It's either that or it was the vitalite tub that preserved mine somehow 🤣

It was almost certainly the trace amount of water, and possibly even condensation from removing the the solution to use, and then putting it back in the freezer.

Yes could easily be a bit of both and I suspect a lot of people forget that if you don't let a sealed container reach room temperature after removing it from the freezer before opening it it will get wet inside. Easily done.

But tryptamines, in PG, in the fridge, in my experience should last as long as you need them to. Just don't go making years worth at once.

In solid form, the chemical attack that causes the color change may also form a protective shell around each grain of powder, preventing further degredation. In solution, all of the material is vulnerable to attack. I believe most things with the indole ring are very reactive in the presence of light, which may create free radicals that rapidly degrade the material. In addition to solvent choice, keeping such solutions away from light is probably critical. They should probably be stored and maybe even exclusively handled in a dark place or a place with only red light. Adding an anti-oxidant like citric acid or ascorbic acid might also help.

I've had them in the fridge now ever since and they seem to have not changed or developed any mold or anything like that.
The drawer I had them in was relatively cool and definitely hidden from light even when opening it.
In the future I wont be keeping any of these substances in liquid form for long periods
(I am also definitely new to this, I was just trying to find a way to dose these chems properly without having to purchase an expensive milligram scale and hoping these solutions are still consumable and I didn't waste all the product)

Thanks for all the insightful responses everyone

purchase an expensive milligram scale
Just for future reference, even a $20-$30 mg scale with a margin of error ~5mg is still usable for the majority of things, and while volumetric liquid dosing is almost always the wiser solution, a margin of error ~5mg on the 100mg that you put in liquid to volumetrically liquid dose over a couple months is a lot better than buying a full gram of something, diluting it, and having to use it SUPER quickly to not waste it.

Gummies and gel tabs hold these compounds pretty well also in my experience, but make sure to do practice runs with inert compounds like melatonin before sending it with more valuable compounds like 4-substituted tryptamines.
