Any of you guys ever try the TRX suspension training? I'm starting a new job with long hours and it's quite physical, so being able to workout at home is really appealing...

You would do better with a bench press, squat rack, and some free weights...

I would use it but I don't want to get too big.

Somebody told me that last week at work and I just stared because I just don't understand that mentality.

What's worse than hearing that is when someone who is out of shape says to you "Wow, it must be great to be able to eat what you want and look the way you do. I wish I had metabolism like that." Mind you, this is when I was eating a small package of Twizzlers in the break room at my job, something I look forward to once a week. I treat myself to piece of candy a day on the weekend. I was disgusted so much that I didn't finish my candy.

Then there are the people that say "You are only in shape because you are on steroids and that is the easy way." That one makes me chuckle.

Lastly "Steroid muscles aren't real muscle, it's just glamor muscle." Oh the things people say and believe.

But seriously OP, the best routine for a guy like you is Starting Strength.

Monday
3x5 Squat
3x5 Bench press / Press (Alternating)
Chin-ups: 3 sets to failure or add weight if completing more than 15 reps

Wednesday
3x5 Squat
3x5 Press / Bench Press (Alternating)
1x5 Deadlift

Friday
3x5 Squat
3x5 Bench Press / Press (Alternating)
Pull-ups: 3 sets to failure or add weight if completing more than 15 reps

It's simple and it won't overload your body. You will gain strength, lose some fat, and gain some muscle. It's by no means a routine to turn you into a bodybuilder but it's a stepping stone. I ran this program when I graduated High School and it gave me great gains. I was working as an Ironworker and Steelfabricator at the time.

After some time you can modify the routine and incorporate other lifts and exercises. Starting Strength is the frame of all my routines. It's modular and versatile.

Yea that's more or less what I do when I lift with some isolation exercises. My job is just to physical to keep that up. I'm going to try using trx only for 8 weeks then go to the gym and see where my lifts are at. I can't gain any mor weight anyways

I'm serious man. Who wants to look like those gross bodybuilders? Looking like that probably takes a lot of like....hard work and knowledge. Like dedication and shit. Fuck that.

Just wanted to chime in on my experience with the TRX so far. It is totally kicking my ass, my legs are still sore 3 days after I worked them out. It is definitely not a replacement for free weights but it would be a great thing to add to your routine. Would be great for cutting, gets your heart rate up for sure. All the doubters out there should try it out before you write it off. Great for flexibility, working out while traveling and for balance/coordination.
