Lysergamides Tripping with DOMS (muscle soreness)?

With the nice weather that rolled in, I went on my first long distance jog and full body workout of the season the other day. I have full body DOMS and feel pretty sore and tired. Moving around real slow if you know what I mean, I'm pretty wiped out and on a rest day. I didn't run/exercise all winter, so my DOMS is pretty intense.

How would this effect an LSD trip? I can't recall ever tripping with this level of DOMS before. I'm hesitant it might alter the trip and more make it less enjoyable, less inquisitive or exploratory somehow... or, on the other hand, it might kill the pain and I won't even notice it.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

When you're on the weights 4/5+ days a week for intensive periods and the DOMs never quite leaves tripping with it would be alright, if you've just freshly bust your muscles it could be a sedentary trip. Have a fun one take care of yourself and let us know how it goes

It was not a happy/pleasant trip unfortunately but it straightened my current situation out
acid always gets the job done no matter what happens :trippy2:

I decided not to trip the other day with the DOMS, but I think you guys are right, I probably wouldn't notice it or it wouldn't be an issue.

Chiming in as somebody who deals with lifelong chronic illness/pain, and yeah tripping can make you aware of it sure, but it's also healed a ton of nerve damage and nerve pain I was dealing with on the daily so I'll infinitely be grateful towards fungi for that cool trick they pulled off. Muscular pain from aggressively skateboarding and working out manifested as a sort of euphoric feeling afterwards when on psilocin/ayahuasca/LSD/mescaline/vaporized DMT/2C-B/DOM, but 25C-NBOMe, 25I-NBOMe and 25B-NBOH all have a pretty intensely painful effect that juxtaposes more traditional psychedelics.

Interestingly, I've always found DOMS to be slightly euphoric by itself. I almost enjoy the pain, and am disappointed when my workouts stop producing them. Not sure if that is something psychological or neurochemical.

What I don't find euphoric, however, is the joint and tendon pain and shin splints, etc.

I've also had some unpleasant and challenging trips when I have had a recent visceral type of pain, like a broken bone or something. Once I accidentally cut my hand with a knife while on 300ug and it was not a fun experience, put me into a really weird headspace. Even though it was not a major injury and only needed a bandaid, I couldn't even feel the pain, it just produced some uniquely negative and weird thoughts that I can still remember.

Even though these compounds generally produce some analgesia, they can also highlight pain psychologically.

Yeah, I avoid tripping in a lot of situations where I have background physical discomfort, but I think I would proceed full speed ahead if it was just DOMS. After all, many psychedelics are exceedingly potent anti-inflammatory drugs. That said, I personally would choose to steer clear of psychedelics that I find to be vasoconstrictive for reasons of recovery as well as comfort. For me, that wouldn't rule out many psychedelics, but LSD would probably be one I'd rule out for myself.

@Quasimoto As with everything else in psychedelia, there's enormous variance here, LSD isn't very vasoconstrictive for me compared to 4-substituted tryptamine, 2C-B, DOx's or N-benzylated phenethylamines for me personally.

Vasoconstriction is likely playing a role.
I dont have DOMS, but I used to be on medication that caused severe vasoconstriction when combined with psychedelics.
My body would generally be quite sore the day after taking LSD as a result.
Oddly, phenethylamines (e.g. 2CB) and tryptamines didn’t really have the same issue for me personally.
Clonidine/a similar vasodilator may help with this.

Serotonin and serotonin mimics like psychedelics have direct effects on the muscles which can contribute to soreness afterwards. There is also stimulation which can encourage one to exert oneself more on psychedelics. These things have little to do with vasoconstriction. DOMS itself may actually depend to some extent on the natural action of serotonin in the muscles, released in response to damage. In general, I very much expect psychedelics to have effects on muscles which may be synergistic with exercise, but I don't know exactly what happens and how favorable (or not) this is for training purposes. In general, serotonin tends to have growth-stimulating effects, but it is also implicated in scarring and formation of pathological fibrosis. Unfortunately, it's not clear what conditions lead to desirable versus undesirable outcomes, and psychedelics act in a very different way compared to serotonin, despite acting through the same receptors. I do hope that some day scientific research can shed more light on these things.
