It's that time of year again, get you short lists together!

The website is even better this year; http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/hottest100/10/

Last few years I have gone with mainly hip hop artists, I'll be interested to see how my ten turns out...

:)

Just done my part

art vs science - magic fountain
Band of skulls - death by diamonds and pearls
Birds of Tokyo - saddest thing I know
Children collide - jelly legs
- my eagle
klaxons - surfing the void
- flashover
Numbers radio - final day
Adrian lux - teenage crime
eagle and the worm - all I know

reading through the list though, I was reminded of how disgusting jjj has been in the last six months. They're changing their demographic for the worst IMO. I've been forced to listen rrr and PBS of late, although they are normally pretty good.

This is gonna take some serious consideration to cull it down to only 10..... :\

It was longer than that, I already did the first cull before I posted.
I am too liberal with my music tastes :D

I struggled really to find ten so just picked some shit to fill numbers that I think is alright.

Bad Religion - The Devil In Stitches

Love this song heaps, and heaps, and not just because they're my favourite band. Brett always write really poetic, literary songs and this is about his formerly troubled relationship with his current girlfriend. It's gorgeous (it's not a particularly punky song with some amazing vocal melodies so check it out):

"It's so easy to love a bringer of destruction

I know he drove her out out to the brink
That's where they stood and looked down
Right then he made a decision
That's where they made a division
Declaring war on the weather
A reckless pact with forever"

Ben Folds/Nick Hornby - From Above

Nice song about missed opportunities. I don't think it's particularly original subject matter but what song ever is.

Bedroom Philosopher, The - Northcote (So Hungover)

I hated this song when it came out. I got the joke it just annoyed me heaps. I think the film clip with its awesome cameos brought me around and now I find it catchy as hell and hilarious.

Eels - Little Bird
Eels - Spectacular Girl

Both delightfully melancholy songs. I don't mind the Eels but I really have to be in the mood.

Gaslight Anthem, The - American Slang
Gaslight Anthem, The - The Queen Of Lower Chelsea

I don't think of them as much besides a Social Distortion rip off band and I much prefer Social Distortion. However I also don't mind them for the same reason I love Social Distortion - Combination of all things lower class and down on your luck Springsteeny with a punkish edge.

Grinderman - Evil

Not as good as the first album but not too bad.

Laura Imbruglia - Pauly

This song is OK but I was trying to make up a whole ten and I saw her live once and she was pretty and funny.

Social Distortion - Machine Gun Blues

I love Social Distortion for the same reason I love Springsteen and early Everclear. I'm a working class loser who likes to get drunk and punch things when I'm depressed. NEW FUCKING SOCIAL DISTORTION AND SEEING THEM IN FEBRUARY TWICE! It's been way too long since the last album.

Gaslight Anthem wish they were this band. It's classic Social D. and is about gangsters. What's not to like?

Started the voting process today, my shortlist is just over 20 songs this year, I'm getting better at this voting thing. Voting can sometimes take me up to 2 weeks tho, I like to contemplate my culls rather thoroughly :)

Would post my shortlist but its on my work computer, will post my 10 when it happens.

Personally, at this stage I'll be voting for;

Crystal Castles Feat. Robert Smith - Not In Love
Professor Green - Be Good To Green
Nicholas Roy - It's All My Fault
Pendulum Feat. In Flames - Self VS Self
Chemical Brothers - Galvanize

And I'm guessing that these will be in the top 10 or at least very close;

Pendulum - ABC Theme Remix
Yolanda Be Cool - We No Speak Americano
Angus & Julia Stone - And The Boys

^ Wasn't Galvanize from an earlier album?? Push the button?? (2005) :)

I totally forgot about the Chemical Brothers, Escape Velocity will definitely be on my shortlist. Also M-Phazes springs to mind...

Haha, good luck voting for Galvanize! You're going to need a time machine.

Oops :\ Haha fuck sorry guys, I actually meant Escape Velocity..Got majorly confused. I had Galvinzed cranking all day today so that's why i wrote it down :p

Cloud Control - Nothing in the Water...
Tame Impala - Alter Ego
Sia - You've changed (actually prefer Clouds, but went with a more pop. song)
Boy and Bear - Rabbit Song
Dead Letter Circus - One Step...
Children Collide - Jellylegs (are these guys the new Green Day)
Little Red - Rock It
Bliss N Eso - Addicted
The Naked and Famous - Punching in a Dream
Birds Of Tokyo - Plans

Totally forgot about Yeasayer :(

Are children collide the new greenday? Well, no. Difference being as follows (musically):

-green day = epic fail
- children collide = epic

if you had listened to children collides albums or seen their shows you would understand why they are nothing like greenday. Everything about the is incomparable, except they're a three piece. Best live show going around australia.
