I need some help, heres my story :)

Well I was in the middle of a comedown from some speed and I was just acting really really depressed - so my mother (yes I live @ home - its cheap) suggested that she will take me to the doctor to be treated for depression... I was just about to laugh at her saying I dont have depression, then I stopped and thought "Depression Treatement = Drugs!" So I reluctantly agreed to go to the doctor :)

So I have a question: If I can get the doctor to prescribe me drugs for depression, what kind of drugs will they be? (Pretend I have no experience with legal drugs and give me as much detail as possible please :)), Will they affect my rolls or trips in any way? Any other info would be appreciated too :)

They'll prolly prescribe you an SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) which will affects your rolls so I have read. Basically you won't feel the good MD feeling as much because the SSRI are inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin. There are heaps of threads within Ecstasy Discussion and Health Q&A on this.

he's on the money.
there isn't all that much point in doing it if you ask me.

Depression treatment = Drugs - For the purpose of depression treatment. Do not expect to be prescribed anything that will give you a high as such. They usually take 2+ weeks to work & come with a list of possible annoying side effects.
Drugs for depression are really only useful to those who suffer from depression

Alright I've spent the last hour reading up on antidepressants + ssri's on this site and others and I have a pretty *basic* grasp of it all now...

Is there any sort of antidepressant that is not an SSRI or anything that will inhibit a roll... or do they need to be SSRI to work

There's another type of antidepressants, called MAOIs... they're worse to mix with MDMA; but they don't inhibit the roll at all, just your lifespan.

A copy of my post found here.

There is a difference between anti-depressants; they might be an MAOI or an SSRI.

SSRIs

Some antidepressant drugs like Prozac work by increasing the availablility of serotinin in the brain, they are called Selective Serotinin Reuptake Inhibitors, or SSRIs. Because SSRIs like prozac have a greater affinity to the reuptake transporter they inhibit the effect of MDMA. This is explained in excellent detail in the dancesafe 'your brain on ecstasy' slideshow.

MAOIs

Deaths have occured when users combine MDMA and Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitors, this inhibits the enzyme that helps to slow down the effects of MDMA resulting in a potentially fatal condition called 'serotonin syndrome'. It is absolutely essential you do NOT take MDMA with an MAOI, the potential for harm is too great. MAOIs are commonly found in certain anti-depressants, information on MAOIs can be found here.

Taking ssri's for a non exsistent condition wouldnt help you too much and could possibly cause damage, and i was reading an article on DR Julie Hollands website sometime ago, about receptor downgrading caused by these drugs, they are apparently just as bad as taking MDMA. But anyway you really have to ask yourself why would you dope up on something that has side effects and well documented withdrawel hells.

Something a little off tack here, but i think doctors are to ready to dole these drugs out at will without looking to the cause of a persons real problem, i also think they are colluding with the pharma companies to increase profits.
Do a search on the net and see what they are prescribed for, you would be suprised at the aliments these are supposed to fix.

blah blah blah blah...
What exactly is your post, titled "u dik", supposed to contribute to this thread?

Nobody from this forum gave you shit about your naive questions about LSD, such as "yea thats were i found out bout LSD from that edowrid site... so do i have to eat paper lol sorry i sound really gay". Instead, people tried to be helpful by directing you to information that would help answer your question - so why do you feel it necessary to put up a post specifically to insult the original poster of this thread? The part of your message that wasn't a direct flame could've easily been written another way. It doesn't take much effort to construct a paragraph without resorting to personal attacks to make your point.

^ *snaps fingers* Wooo, you GO, boyfriend. (i.e. you beat me to it)

Back to the topic at hand: coupled with what has already been said here about SSRI's etc., there is a whole raft of side effects caused by these drugs. One of the most significant is the inability (in many cases) to orgasm. So not only do you not get any pleasure from pilling, you can't use nature's pleasure source either ;)

Stick with the pills mate, if you feel like you need legitimate help then by all means see a psychiatrist but be prepared for what I mentioned above.

Its possible I do suffer from a mild case of depression - my family on my mothers side has it and I fit all the criteria for it - but if I have to give up mdma for it I wont be doing it :)

I think the fact that I posted here trying to find out any information about the drugs that would be prescribed and their effects and trying to find out all I can about something before I go into it is not an invitation to flame.

Frankly chanelle, If you have some opinion that does not help me with drug information - I dont want to hear it.. Keep your thoughts to yourself and only post if you have something relevant to say.

MDMA is Depression, yeah sure its all good in the begining.......

^^^^Erba what on earth are you on about (i've had a few drinks, no make that more than a few) even i can fathom that your understanding of MDMA is rather miniscule.
MDMA does not have effects like depression its an empathogen or a drug of empathy causing heightened awareness of emotional senses furthermore its chemical structure is somewhat related to speed. Anyhow as for the original poster of this thread goes, were not trying to flame you but offer prity damn sound advice (its well documeted) that taking ssris or maoi's for a condition which is non existant is tackfully dangerous and the case of maoi's is fatal.

Just because your family has a history of depression as such doesnt make you a likely candidate. The best advice i can give is if you feel a little off than maybe you should see a Doc but dont think you'll be fooling them as easily as you think.

Well........ after a long period of MDMA use......... (not everyday) say after a year of dropping every weekend... you will know what i mean.

Im not talking about WHILE on it................. While your on it.... "its all good" its when your NOT!.

Mr Giggles, any long term user can explain to you what I mean.

I have been on SSRI's for 3 months now to treat depression and in most cases it made me a lil worse and rolls are no way near as good as if i wasnt to take Fluoxetine

erba- if somone is going to take MDMA (or anyother drug for that matter) every weekend for a year they are bound to start having some problems me thinks
as most people already know, you need to space out your rolls so as to give your head (brain, seretonin) time to get back to 'normal' so as to obtain the maximum benefit.
