Hi! This is my very first post. Has anyone had experience or know someone who has taken Trazodone for Cocaine Withdrawal? I am entering rehab on Feb 3, and I heard Trazodone might be used to replace my Lunesta. I have read Trazodone is used for Cocaine Withdrawal. Wondering if it is useful. Please respond.
Tks,
:?

I am as my Dr. said, "Jones-N" (don't know how to spell it). I do coke almost everyday and I really don't enjoy the high it use to give, now its like a drug I have to have not to panic, and feel like I'm going out of my mind. I feel like I'm going to jump out of my skin. All I think about is how am I going to get coke, mainly an excuse to leave the house, then $, then am I going to be able to hide the "tell-tale" signs I'm doing it. They say there's no physical withdrawal but I have nervousness, panic, sweaty chills especially at night. That is definite physical symptoms of withdrawal.

Cocain doesn't have much of a withdrawal compared to many drugs. Jonesing is a synonym for craving. Craving is a major part of addiction. Here are some good threads you may want to look through. If you do have any physical symptoms associated with quitting to use the coke then I would highly recommend aerobic exercise. I used to be able from feeling like death after a coke binge to feeling right as rain with thirty minutes of exercise. Also exercise has helped my recovery from drug addiction, including IV coke use phenomenally.

Here is a thread you may want to join if you decide to add exercise to you recovery plan:)

Here are some threads to increase you understanding of addiction. Its always good to understand what we are up against=D

“I have absolutely no pleasure in the stimulants in which I sometimes so madly indulge. It has not been in the pursuit of pleasure that I have periled life and reputation and reason. It has been the desperate attempt to escape from torturing memories, from a sense of insupportable loneliness and a dread of some strange impending doom.”
― Edgar Allan Poe

Successful recovery from a coke addiction is a difficult thing to accomplish. But if I can do it so can you. Just always keep moving forward with your recovery and dont beat yourself up. Its a learning process so dont forget to learn. You can and will do this!!!

Good things about being off drugs/getting sober

it's (IMO)a shitty psych sleep med,but it will make it easier for you to fall asleep at an
appropriate hour.
don't know about the anxiety though.
you might want a professional opinion.

I always thought the anxiety was what made coke/crack runs unbearable.
the come down.
jesus….

best of luck from a pothead with issues.

Yeah. I go to rehab 2-3, & I can't have my Lunesta for sleep. They talked about giving me Trazodone in place of Lunesta. However I had heard it helped with withdrawals. Didn't know.

if you're in rehab, you're doing the right thing.
trust them.you have made the right decision.

Lunesta is not as sedating as Trazodone so it should be cool.

Your are aware that trazodone is addicting and you dont want to trade a coke addiction for a trazodone addiction and dependence. Trazodone is often misrepresented as a hard drug to get addicted to but there are plenty of Bluelighters who know different. Just something to be aware of.

"Trazodone (sold under the brand names: Depyrel (IL†), Desyrel (CA, US†), Molipaxin (IE, ZA, UK), Oleptro (US), Trazodil (IL), Trazorel (CA), Trialodine (US), Trittico (HK, IL†, SG)) is an antidepressant of the serotonin antagonist and reuptake inhibitor (SARI) class. It is a phenylpiperazine compound. Trazodone also has anti anxiety (anxiolytic) and sleep-inducing (hypnotic) effects.[2] Its side-effect profile and potential toxicity are considerably different from those of the original antidepressants (i.e., the monoamine oxidase inhibitors [MAOIs] and tricyclic antidepressants"

This information says it has "sleep inducing (hypnotic) effects" so as well as some antdepresent effects so it may indead have a psitive effect for you.

I think the biggest thing with cocaine addiction is finding a technique that is able to help shut the craving down. I a possible way to do this is to play the whole movie.. when we crave we experience pleasant memories of use. But the memory we get hit with is a snap shot of when the drug was good to us. its is only that little sliver of time. but this is what it throws at us.. it lies and fails to remember to mention that the drug no longer makes us feel that way ever and it never whispers how we felt before that moment, the really unpleasant emotions you stated in the other thread.. and how we felt after that moment was over and we were all pieced out. anxious and paranoid. The addiction always whispers that it will make us feel amazing. it lies and lies.. Learn to see past the delusion that we actually just feel that way.. we are being handed a loaded deck when we crave, its only loaded with positive memories, learn to see what the use of the coke really makes you feel like.. then throw that back at the craving and call it on its lies.. all lies.. learn to play the whole movie of what useing is really like and you wont get played buy the cravings.

Do you know if you are going to a 12 step based rehab?

You can do this=D

Oh and by the way if you are unhappy with an action that is taken with a thread you have created please just Personal Message one of the staff and we will be happy to listen to your views and wishes and do what we can to facilitate them. this is much preferred to just starting a duplicate thread as we dont allow duplicate threads in multiple forms on BL. I am trying to get your other thread back and will merge it with this one. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to PM me or any of the wonderful recovery or Dark side staff. There is a link provided in the all of our signitures which apear below most of our posts. Again a warm welcome to Bluelight.

getting off of meth was one of the most challenging experiences of my life and i couldn't stay clean i just switched alcohol and was able to kick that but then i had a bad episode of pain in my back they gave me morphine shot at the hospital and sent me home with vicodin i told them no i'm an addict but they didn't listen and i had no idea then that vicodin might as well be weak heroin if you get clean actually get clean no crutches they can easily become addictions i don't want to quit because i'm in pain all the time from messing my back up as a plumber if it weren't for the pain i'd be done just be careful stay away from rationalization

Swim would advise to stay away from trazadone. Swim did some time in rehab recently, and the doc prescribed it for sleep issues. Believe it or not, trazadone is habit forming. If you start taking it every night, you won't be able to sleep without it. If your stimulant comedown is unbearable, take 50 mg and wait at least a week before taking it again. Swim took it every night in rehab, 60 days, and still can't sleep without it. Swim traded one addiction for another, how ironic.

We don't use SWIM on BL.

Trazadone is not terrible. It will put you to sleep and let you sleep for at least 4 hours in a row, and this is coming from an insomniac that has tried everything in the book. My doc lets me take up to 3 if I need to, but I had to stop because it can cause vivid dreams after awhile. But it does work for sleep, certainly in a rehab situation. I wouldn't be to weary of it.
