Tramadol, ketorolac??

I was in a pretty bad car accident this past week and went to the er after because my back and neck were stiff and hurting. They prescribed me 50mg tramadol which I've never taken. I took one and it didn't touch the pain so later that afternoon I took 2 of them and it gave me a panic attack! My anxiety went through the roof. I went back to the er in my state of anxiety because the only way to get something for the pain was to be reevaluated. I told them that this was still not helping for the pain hoping they'd prescribe a typical pain killer I could handle like lortab or percocet. They prescribe me another med I've never tried "ketorolac". What the hell is ketorolac?? I said why can't you prescribe me something I know won't affect me negatively instead trying another drug on me in my state of stress? The nurse says well what do you want? Ibuprofen? I hated the tramadol side effects and now I'm scared to try ketorolac. I'm in so much pain and I don't know what to do. I didn't want to ask for hydrocodone in fear they might think I'm going to abuse it or something. What is ketorolac? Is it very strong? Any advice on pain relief??

I don't even want to try the ketorolac in fear of more bad side effects. I'm weird about meds. Why are they so stubborn about prescribing you something you know that works for you?? It makes me so mad!!

yeah i hear ya. You cant tell em what you want of else they wont give it to ya! thats not how it should be in this world!

Im vomiting and sick today. I'm not sure if on top of it all I have a stomach bug or the meds I took yesterday are making me sick. I know tramadol has an ssri. And lexapro gave me panic attacks. I hate ssri's.

You should call your doctor and tell them that this medication is making you sick. But tell your doctor that it might be a stomache flu too. That medication might work for you and you dont want to discontinue it if your not too sure that the medicine is actually causing the nausea. They know what theyre doing (most of the time). lol

They think they know what they are doing but when you tell them you know what does work for you and helps the pain they dont even ask what it is that works and they prescribe you something else.

well i cant disagree with that. Doctors are very fickle, talking to them is an art XD.

Just be honest and sincere about your pain. but dont sound like an addict!

Did the link i gave you help?

I didn't sound like an addict. I mentioned I've never had a probl with pain medication I had been prescribed before. And asked them why do you prescribe me something else new instead of something I know works? Then he sarcastically says what do you want "ibuprofen"? The site helped but I am not up for trying another medication.

Well what i think is, and this is just my opinion, that even though you were in pain (and probably still are!) they might have thought that your injuries werent "serious" enough for narcotics. Now im no MD. And i dont know the full extent of your injuries. But thats just a theory. I am really sorry that you cant get medication you need. I too know how it is to have neck pain and get denied meds by doctors. Muscle relaxants might help though. And a massage or physical therapy. If those dont work for you then you should go back to the doctor.

It was the er. They gave me tramadol first remember... My pain has multiplied so much since the accident. I'm going to a lawyer Monday. I have no health insurance so I have no regular doctor. I can't go to the same er doc again. Hopefully I can get sent for some care through the lawyer (I was hit by a really old woman who shouldnt be driving) and get some physical therapy and meds that work for me.

ketorolac is an NSAId (non-steroidial anti-inflammatory) and a fantastic one at that imo, my facourite with the least side effects of most all NSAIDS i've used.. i've been given it IM in hospital setting on a few ocassions and has worked wonders that opiods such a morphine and oxycodone have been rendered almost useless in pain alleviation. it really is the best NSAID i've used to date after may years on pain management.

your doctor should have explained to you any adverse reaction and contraindication it may have with other meds; it has no bad interaction with tramadol as i've used them in conjunction to treat pain. go back and explain the situation with the tramadol and with any luck they may give you something more adequate. i would definitely give the ketolorac a chance.
