Tramadol, how does it help my illness?

Hi,

I've been suffering with debilitating fatigue, weakness, and pain / constant brain problems (memory, fog, can't think properly) for as long as I can remember (since 8 years old) and was diagnosed with M.E. since they couldnt find what was wrong.

I'm now 20 and have been prescribed many drugs with no help at all.

I was prescribed tramadol quite recently for my pain, and it had a very unexpected change on my illness (not just the pain). When I took it, my feeling in my body of being ''Poisoned'' which I have non stop become more managable. I am no where near a well person with the tramadol but it eases my dreadful illness into a something more managable.

It helps with my fatigue / my pain, my constant poisoned feeling, it just eases the whole illness. It makes it all so much easier to bare.

I thought this might be a good place to get some advice / help. Does anyone know how this drug could effect my illness in this way? I have been taking my tramadol when feeling my worst (especially when i'm bedbound or stuck to a wheelchair) so I can cope easier because i'm worried if I take it everyday it will stop working in this way.

Is there any other medicines which would do the same?

Thanks in advance.

(Btw - I am not looking for medical advice, basically just how tramadol could effect me like this (what do you think its upping/changing?) and what other medicine do this, thank you.)

I believe that Tramadol is really just a high strength Ibuprofen. I know I have alot of joint pain from sports injuries that have began to suffer from arthritis and if they flare up i'll take tramadol by pill or shot. The shot does have a little kick to it that will pep some people up a bit and then of course theres the antiinflamatory to ease your joint pain but all in all tramadol is good drug for aches and pains but it's nothing special.

tramadol affects many receptors including opiate (mu) adregernic, norepinephrine, and serotonin it is a unique drug with many unique effects to it. stimulation of all these receptors at once could be responsible for easing your symptoms and making you feel more human. I know it helps me get motivated to do stuff
