tramadol for withdrawals

im on a 25 mcg/h fentanyl patch, and today my doctor gave me a script for 50 mcg/h fent patches, and 50 mg tramadol for breakthrough pain, however my gas ass insurance only allows me 10 fentanyl patches per 30 days, even if the new script is a higher dose. i have to make 2 patches last a little over 2 weeks, so im thinking about not wearing the patch for a few days, and just take tramadol 2 times a day

will this stop any withdrawals from the fentanyl?

im not concerned about pain right now, i just dont want withdrawals, so am i good?

yea, it will certainly help. Just don't exceed 400-450mg's. Take some lyrica or neurontin with it if you have any, especially if you're gonna do a high dose.

i take neurontin for nerve pain anyways

but i dont want to abuse it. . will 50 mg's every 8 hours still fight off withdrawals?

^ 50mg's every 6-7 hours would help. It's best if you administer it rectally.

Yea it actually does work pretty well for opiate WD as long as you dont have a monster habit. Tramadol is weak on its own, but in a pinch if there is nothing else available, it will help with the WD's.

im down for plugging it, but will it make that much of a difference?

i havent seen much info on it so i assumed it wasnt that much more effective

can anyone else back this up?

^ Oral bioavailability is 68-72%. Rectally it's 77%. It also kicks in faster and effects are stronger.

If you google it or search BL OD directory you can find info on this.

i plugged 100 mg's over an hour ago, and i hardly feel it

im just gonna take it orally, as prescribed and wait a couple more weeks til i get some real drugs

how well does the tramadol really work on the withdrawls? I've been told by a friend that it helps but i never really believed it.

Was given trams, 200mg 4x daily first weak for a 160mg a day oxy habit, then 3 4x daily the next week and am currently on 2 4x daily,. They helpped so much in my case it was pretty straight forward but that is me.

You didn't just shove the pills up your ass did you?

I don't know why your doctor would give you tramadol for breakthrough pain if you have pain bad enough to require a fentanyl patch. When i was on the fent patch i had either dilaudid or oxy IR's for breakthrough pain. Tramadol wouldnt kill a headache for me.

Tramadol does little to nothing for WD's for me. When i took it during morphine WD's it helped the mental symptoms abit but that is all. Codeine certainly helped a hell of alot more.

There isint much harm in taking it as long as you keep under 400mg's a day. Up your gabapentin dose as that will help with withdrawals as well. It will also help reduce the risk of a seizure due to tramadol since it is a anti-convulsant.

he didnt wanna alter my pain regimen too much, because i see a pain management doctor, and was in the process of switching to a new one

I think Tramadol is pretty subjective in how it effects people, wether it be for withdrawals or pain etc. I know I loved it at first but once tolerance set in it felt like a sugar pill, unless I took dangerous doses.

I was trying to withdrawal from heroin the other night and about 40 hours in I decided to take a 100 mg tramadol that I had to see if it would relieve any symptoms. I was really hoping it would, but it actually seemed to make my symptoms worse (or the withdrawals just progressed and the tram did nothing), most notably the RLS. I am looking through the boards to see if anyone else has reported this.
BTW I ended up getting some H. oh well

I used to say I loved tramadol more than any other opiate, but once I started progressing into addiction and tolerance with the hardcore opiates, tramadol did less and less to me. The only time I noticed anything from it after I was addicted to morphine, pods, and suboxone was symptoms that were probably of an imminent seizure if I took anymore (I was taking really high doses trying to get effects). I'm about two weeks into suboxone withdrawal, which was worse than morphine withdrawal, and I still don't feel right so I'm going to see if tramadol will help my withdrawal at all. :!

wow menstrualfuck

Wow, babe, I feel for you. I had a huge addiction to tramadol. Got in alot of trouble over it. Be careful and best of luck. Any chance of getting ahold of clonidine? I hear this helps with w/d. :\

when i was on fent patches my doctor would only give me tramadol or codeine for breakthrough :\ it took me 2 years with him to finally persuade him i'm better on morphine because i had a lot of trouble with fent and bupe patches staying on my skin.

i live in a warmer climate so perspiration caused them to come unstuck a fair amount and left me short quite a few times.

tramadol is a life saver for me when tapering and through wd's. i'm one of the lucky people i guess, staves off depression great because of the snri effects. no matter how big my habit i can usually get by on 400mg through the day and still be in a manageable amount of pain. codeine is also a great aid

In my opinion, Tramadol just is not strong enough to stave off W/D symptoms.

Methadone is the shit at this, I would never be alive if it wasn't for that shit.
