OK so I can't sleep, so figured I should start a new thread :) I did search for such a thread, but, bizarrely, there doesn't appear to be one (there's a 'Top 5 bands and DJs thread', but no 'Top 5 electronic producers' thread).

So without further ado, my selections are:

Underworld
New Order
Kraftwerk
Alex Smoke
Circulation

"producers"? Will this simply mean auteurs of electronic music? Do duos count as two entries?

1. The members of Autechre (Rob Brown and Sean Booth)
2. Richard D. James (Aphex Twin)
3. Amon Adonai Santos de Araújo fuckin' Tobin
4. Skinny Puppy's 'glory period' line-up (cEvin Key and Dwayne Goettel)
5. Jochem Paap (Speedy J) (while I don't like his recent work, his releases from '97 to 2000 are unparalleled, and he released his own sample pack and sequencer. "producer" indeed)

ebola

'Producers' includes production duos, trios, quartets etc etc. The term 'producers' tends to be used in electronic music, whereas 'bands' and 'artists' tend to be used in guitar music. But they all mean the same thing.

By the way - excellent lists Joe and ebola! Aphex Twin, Orbital, and The Chemical Brothers all get big thumbs up from me. I need to listen to some more Autechre and Skinny Puppy, as a lot of people (whose music opinions I respect a lot) seem to rate them really highly. I've never even heard of D-Bridge, but I'll check him/her/them out!

i like this list. i'd throw in Flying Lotus at 4th and Skinny Puppy as a last but certainly not least, aphex takes first tho for sure, that man is not of this planet o_o

Daft Punk deserves a place too. Justice is pretty good too, they have a cool way of mixing and slicing up their beats that makes you wanna dance like a madman.

I've been thoroughly displeased with cEvin Key on his own...and most of the stuff with solely Phil Western (but not the latter's solo work).

Simon Posford (Of Shpongle and Hallucinogen fame)
Infected Mushroom (When they made awesome psytrance)
Chemical Brothers
Eat Static
Ed Rush & Optical

Armin van Buuren.
Cosmic Gate
Above and Beyond
Ferry Corsten
