Just wondering if only knows of a link between toncilitus and speed. After a very speedy weekend a couple of months ago, I got toncilitus for the first time. AND DOESN'T IT HURT! :S Speed was again the drug of choice this weekend just been, and again I've got toncilitus. I realise that it probably has something to do with the lack of sleep and diet etc. but can't help thinking that speed might also do something to make my toncilitus flare up.
Any suggestions?

me not sure if they are directly related, but amphetamines do tend to lower your immune system and make you more succeptable to falling sick..
After this weekend at pharmacy I've come down with a shocking cold.. fluey type thing, usually feel like this a few days after every weekend..
Any BL'ers know of ways you can try and keep your immune system as strong as it usually is?

I got tonsilitis for the first time this year after using meth biweekly for a few months. I have no doubt that it was because my immune system was lowered.
Do yourself a favour - take a break for a few weeks, let it get better, and it shouldnt flare back up again.

firstly, drugs and a hard night out of dancing and chemicals will really screw with your immune system. you need to make sure you get all your vitamins and minerals before and after you roll. do a search for post and preloading to see whats best. i usually top up with antioxidants like C and echinaecia? before and after heading out.
sharing drink bottles is also a great way to pick up other peoples germs.

I've also got a bit of a sore throat and cough (which could almost be expected after my last weeks effort

) but I think it would most probably be due to the lowering of immune system, lack of sleep, etc. Try to get plenty of vitamin C, echinacea and zinc to get rid of any nasties and lots of sleep after. See a doctor if pain persists... no really.

Its really not looking to good is it.
Its all been said before but it does make you think a bit. We go out into a fairly much sealed room, ventalation is never good in clubs, breath in everyones flu germs or whateva, share their water bottles, take drugs to lower our bodys natural defences and then to top it off we wont eat properly or sleep properly for a few days after just to make sure anything we could have caught gets nice and settled before we try to combat it in anyway.
Its a wonder I'm not sick a lot more than I am, which isnt all that often. This is probably silly but I wonder if this complete abuse of our imune system is maybe helping it to adapt to these new super bugs and we are in a way becoming stronger. Probably not but I havent had a flu shot, I wont touch antibiotics and I drown myself in germs and I aint gettin sick ..... yet. *touch wood*

Heheh... that's the first time I've heard someone suggest homeopathy by amphetamines. "Drugs -- just like a workout for your immune system."

After turning down wizz for years, I had a big binge period on it, staying up all night every night, studying or partying. The wizz came from various sources and at times was plain shit. I only ever snorted, but overall it amounted to heaps.
I started to get a sore throat and loose my voice. After about 8 months, I saw an ear nose and throat specialist, who informed me I had a tumor on my vocal cord. I had it removed, and (whew!)it was benign.
The ENT spaecialist said it was a very rare looking one, and it did not fit the usual picture of something caused by smoking. It was more likely a product from exposure to toxic chemicals!
So after searching all I could on this subject, I concluded it was probably the wizz, (or impurities) as inhalants are listed as a possible cause of vocal cord tumors.
Because of this I never touch the stuff now. I had no trouble giving it up, although I did go home early from clubs for awhile.
So my advice would be to not snort it if you take it this way. Instead try dissolving it in a glass of water. Speed bombs (wizz wrapped up in a cig paper) are not good as they tend to burn the stomach lining.
Why is snorting speed so bad? Well, besides being something that drys out your throat, the product can contain contaminants from people manufacturing it that have little if any knowledge of chemistry.
Some of the side reaction products that have been found in wizz made from pseudoephedrine include 1-benzyl-3-methyl-
naphthalene and 1,3-dimethyl-2-phenylnaphthalene, most likely poisonous compounds and possibly carcinogenic.
Sorry if this has seemed like a lecture. I don't wish to imply that a little bit of wizz is dangerous, but for me I think a lot was.

Phase-dancer, not to cast any doubt on your research or what caused your particular problem, but if we are educating people we need evidence before claiming chemicals are possibly-this, or maybe-that.
That said, I don't have enough knowledge of the subject to disagree with you, and I am very interested in your research.
Good work!
Anyway, what I wanted to add to this thread is that I too am suffering from throat infection currently. I went out all nite Friday and Saturday nite, and stayed up drinking on Sunday nite. But, my difference is I didn't have any drugs. Just drank some beers and had a few cigarettes (ok, so they are drugs too, but you know what I mean).
Therefore, is it really the amphetamines (no doubt they do depress your immune system), or is it the fact that we just get ourselves so exhausted in such a non-sterile environment? I reckon both, but its interesting to see what happens when you party just as hard without the amphetamines, huh?
Maybe if I'd had speed I wouldn't have ended up so sick

I used to get tonsilitus chronically as a kid, never had the tonsils out but it eventually stopped. The few times I've been on speed my throat hasn't been affected in any real way.
I find the biggest culprit for a sore throat the next day (whether it be a pub night, rave or whatever) is cigarette smoke. Put me in a smokey environment for a couple of hours and I can almost guarantee I'm going to be feeling it for days. Thank god for the banning of smoking where people eat.

Good points Raider, I've been trying to locate where I put the lit searches/ refs. I'll post the important bits when I find them. My searches were mostly online, so I should be able to find some of them again if the disc doesn't turn up.
My evaluation that wizz was a likely possibility, is I admit subjectively based on:
1) The condition appearing after I started heavy using and was more aggravated with a big night.
2) The unusual type of the growth and because of my relatively young age it didn't fit that typically seen for a smoker ( which I am )
3) Typical Predisposing factors for such cell changes listed inhalents and snuffs.
I apologise if this came across as more than just something I thought y'all should be aware of. I know heaps of people that have apparently few adverse reactions from speed.
We also tend to forget the level of smoke from fog machines around dance floors, and that we often shout in clubs to be heard. Snorting, smoking, & shouting, all things that can irritate your throat or make you susceptible to infection.

Smoking a pack of cigarettes can give me a sore throat? Gee, who would have guessed.
No link between speed causing tonsilitus, although i've got it twice after large ones, its the immune system thing.
No drug is going to "cause" you to get the flu/tounsilitus/hep c/dwarfism - its the lower immune system and other germs however contracted.
As said elsewhere - common sense ain't all that common.
PS - Phase dancer - nice 1
