Tolerance

I don't know about all psychedelics, but acid, shrooms, and others that affect your serotonin receptors will cause physical tolerance through upregulation if used often enough. I'm not sure how often "often enough" is, but in my experience any more often than once a month was enough to build tolerance. I have no idea why you'd hate the word "tolerance" though, it's a natural process that occurs with most drug use.

^ Yeah, that's how it feels. You're tripping, it just doesn't have the same impact. You've been to the same place too recently.

But, technically, physical tolerance and "psychological" tolerance are one and the same. The psychological tolerance has to be mediated by some change in brain chemistry, as our psychological state is simply a result of a physical state of the brain, and chemical reactions in the brain ultimately produce everything we experience.

They're just two different neurological changes that occur after tripping, both of which diminish the impact of tripping again in the near future.

After tripping a lot, especially if done in a short period of time, you'll have pretty long-term physical tolerance and even longer-term psychological/behavioral tolerance. Moral of the story: don't make tripping a regular activity. Even doing it once a week or once every other week or something like that will eventually cause you to become accustomed to it. I'm a person who's abusing psychedelics pretty heavily in the past - for some of us, tripping frequently is a very attractive option. But I recommend against it if you want to keep it special. It's still hard for me to have special trips that don't feel like I've just been there before, and I'm not tripping too much these days, and I had 6 months off after my last period of heavy use.
