Preferences on store bought main stream brand cigarettes vs rolling your own with a bag of tobaco and filters

Any benifits from the tobacoo you buy in bags rather than big company manufactured tobacoo.

Favorite cigs and tobacco

Benefits to rolled cigs:

Cheaper
Can modulate size and shape

Benefits to pre rolled cigs:

Fuck it I'm lazy!!

My favorite rolling bacco is Norwegian shag and my favorite pack cigs are unfiltered lucky strikes

i don't think i've ever had a tailor cig which didn't taste a bit like chemicals.

rollies do not taste like chemicals to me, they taste all right if u have the palate for it.

rollies is cheaper, and i also like the ritual of rolling.

i think it depends what scene u roll with as to which u would smoke. i know hipsters in my city all smoke rollies, and seems like most people who go clubbing smoke tailors.

in a pinch, rolling tobacco works. but boy do i hate smoking pipe tobacco (eg. Largo, 4 Aces, etc.) in a rolled cigarette.

i smoke Camel Filters...in Washington brand name smokes are $10 per pack! so i dont normally buy packs of Camels or Marlboros. I usually buy the "push your own" smokes with tubes and loose tobacco , a guy at my clinic sells 'em 8 for a dollar. they're not great but you cant beat the price...Also i like Parliament Lights with the recessed filter.

Rolling tobacco has less chemicals than cigarettes but in the grand scheme of things they both are destroying your lungs

American Spirit rolling tobacco is probably one of the best choices if you are looking for a low dose of chemicals in your cigarette. I like Bali Shag too; and Drum now that I think about it...

Exactly. Although, I'm not a smoker. Only ever bought 1 pack for myself, never rolled cigs myself. I smoke from time to time when offered in company, and then I prefer rolled (by another person) cigs for their better taste and smell.

If I were to take up smoking tobacco at some point (god forbid!), I would probably smoke pre-rolled. I'm lazy.

I actually just bought some rollies off my roommate cause I'm short on cash at the moment and don't feel like spending 10$ on a pack of Camels. They're alright I guess. Can't go wrong with the price. I just want my vape back though.

Rolling your own always seems to be more harsh on the throat and lungs (without a filter), my guess is rolling tobacco doesn't have menthol in it.
Plenty of regular cigarettes have menthol in them, menthol cigs usually just have more.I

When I'm low on tobacco or other, I make a ghetto roll of various leaves, typically tobacco from store cigs, or dried poppy or cannabis leaves. These ghetto rolls are really harsh on the lungs despite the lack of chemicals.

In my hometown of Melbourne Oz most people on low incomes smoke black market tobacco called "chop chop". Chop chop is loose tobacco that is un-taxed and you have a choice if you go to most asian cigarette shops of either getting i think it's half a kilo of loose chop chop tobacco for 30 or so dollars and rolling your own. Or if your a lazy you can get a box of a 100 pre-rolled cig's that look pretty much like any other tailored cigarette but only cost 25 dollars for the box of 100. FYI in my country a pack of 25 legal smokes cost 25 aussie dollars the tax on them is that high.

Back when i smoked i tried a few chop chop smokes and man they were as harsh as smoking normal tobacco out of a bong. As for the OP question i never had the patience to roll my own smokes and always went for tailored cigarettes, the cheapest of the cheap brands but that was years ago. I know people don't want to hear this but quitting was the best thing i ever did.

i quit smoking about 4 years ago, but smoked for 35 - 40 years before that ~ have probably tried just about every brand ~ when i quit i was smoking American Spirit. ~ i found them much easier on the lungs ~ & then the other brands tasted like crap! so i couldn't go back ~ i generally bought packs, but for a while i rolled my own & it was definitely easier on the wallet ~ only problem was that the loose tobacco would dry out ~ though there are remedies for this ~ tobacco bags & so on. ~ i wouldn't be able to buy packs today so if i was still smoking i'd probably be rolling my own. ~ didn't use filters at all, just papers. & would still do that. ~ might even get a rolling machine ~ though in 40 years of smoking i didn't use one. it was easy to roll em. ~

Exact opposite to me, i could never pick up the knack of rolling. I didn't start smoking cig's until i was 20, started with weed first and quickly worked out i was best getting a small plastic rolling machine for my joint's. If i can recall correctly in my first year smoking tobacco i tried drum rolling tobacco and i think i didn't even finish the pouch as i hated the taste of roll your own smokes that much. In hindsight i was i skipped the weed when i was 16 as i think it stunned my growth (i stopped growing at 16, it's a mystery why) and had taken up normal tobacco younger seeing that i didn't understand the value of money until i had a nicotine habit to support and would have given me some motivation to get off my ass and earn some money.

When i first started to smoke i preferred Marl-bro or benson and hedges as both those brands were smooth on the lungs IMO. Soon enough thanks to tax rises i learnt to appreciate cheaper smokes like Holiday blue 30's that had a little kick to them but were more economical seeing as they came in pack's of 30's. Thanks to having part time jobs where you could smoke almost when ever you felt like it and using amphetamines i was smoking close to a packet and half of holiday blue 30's a day. I realised i was heading towards premature death after smoking for about 9 years and kicked the habit thanks to nicotine replacement patches and gum.

Do you never notice that a bought cigarette wont go out on you when you leave it down where a rollie will which is telling me there is something added to keep them burning. I used to smoke in bed when i got home from night shift anf have fell asleep while doing so. Glad i was smoking a rollie at the time or i probably wouldn't be here typing this..

I thought store cigs had chemicals to keep them from not burning on like that. That's why they say FSC on the pack.
