To anyone here whos prescribed amphetamines - How do you exercise?

I'm prescribed dexedrine for ADHD and I have big plans in life so I like to be constantly learning things and getting things done so I am regularly on the medication. I want to stay healthy. I keep myself nourished and take the right substances but I rarely exercise at all and its time to change that. I have an eliptical machine at home and I can being killing 2 birds with the one stone by exercising on it while watching documentaries, lectures or other informative things on the TV. I'm concerned about my heart though. It has a heart rate monitor and I notice that my resting pulse it around 120 beats per minute but as soon as I start exercising it shoots up and reaches 150 bpm in under a minute. What is a dangerously high heart rate for a person whos resting pulse is around 120 bpm? I have a blood pressure tester and I notice that on dexedrine my resting pressure it around 130/?. I can't remember what the 2nd figure is but I looked into it and the diastolic gap or whatever you call it was normal.
 
Your resting pulse is 120bpm? holy shit mate. mine is around 60. or do you just mean while on the amps?


Anyway, I believe anything over 200bpm is call for medical attention.
 
Do your workouts first thing in the morning before eating or taking your medication. That is generally the best time to do workouts anyways.
 
If your resting heart rate is 120bpm. Please go talk to your Doctor, that is quite high and might call for a change in medication, as well as some diagnostics to ensure you do not have a co-morbid disorder.

I am RX'd dex (and abuse meth) and exercise on it just fine... my resting pulse is around 50 sober, 60ish on RX'd dosage and maybe 75 TOPS after smoking some stal...
Try exercising before you dose, or later in the evening as you start to clear the bulk of the amphetamine from circulation.
 
If you are not an athlete in very good shape anything over ~180bpm and over is a no go. Anything over ~100bpm resting pulse is also not a good sign. While doing sports you should be trying to hover at ~140-160bpm (I personally don't know too much info. on the exact places (peak/maintained) the pulse should be during exercise, maybe look this up a bit more)

Avg. safe resting BPM for someone who is not extraordinarily fit can range from ~60-90bpm depending on many different factors.

It is a good suggestion that you try to exercise before taking your meds, and if you really are having such numbers as you posted at the top you should go see your doc for sure.

For your blood pressure 130/~65-85 is within acceptable values.

Edit: Lol I read you are using the heart rate monitor from the machine. You can take your own pulse simply by touching your wrist where your pulse beats the strongest (usually between base of palm under your thumb and the largest tendon on that side), and count the beats while watching a clock for 15 seconds. Multiply by 4 and you have your BPM. This will be MUCH more accurate than anything some heart rate monitor on a normal work out machine will tell you.

Rangrz you are most likely in decent shape, or have a naturally lower number of beats per minute. A resting pulse of 50-60bpm is really only a good sign if you are in pretty good shape, otherwise it can mean quite a few things, especially if it sinks under 50bpm (i.e. your SA or AV nodes may be setting the wrong pace).

Yeah, I am very good shape.

I will say that most machines will measure your pulse rate better then you will get by hand.

If your serious about tracking these stats, I'd suggest a higher consumer quality cuff type pressure measuring device (drop about 100) and a pulsoximeter(Those little things you always see with a red glow on someones finger in the hospital)like this for an accurate pulse plus blood oxygen saturation. That model is the one currently rattling around in my (Something between BLS and ACLS) bag but not intended as an endorsement, anything that is FDA or CE approved will do just fine.

I would suggest taking a BLS or ideally the Electronic portion of ACLS so you can interpret the readings better tho.

Exactly. Hell, some cardio in the evening should ease your come-down. If you tolerate pot acceptably while on the tail of amphetamines, I'd suggest that and some food too (mainly the food, as after a solid cardio workout, you really do need to eat).

I am prescribed Dexedrine and run outside 4 times a week.. I find this to be the best and most accessible excersise, along with a healthy diet. Build your distance running up gradually so you don't detest it from the get go. Start with a mile one week, 1.2 the next , etc. Let me know if you have any questions.
