I am currently in the process of putting together a bunch of items for a garage sale. Due to being spoiled enough to attract flies throughout childhood/adultolescence, I really cannot fathom most of these items not selling. I have a lot of very nice toys, some Hello Kitty items, various Barbie dolls and action figures, and really just a lot of nicely crafted items that I know a lot of people like. I have already decided not to sell any jewelry at the garage sale, but instead use an resource I have that deals with antiques and jewelry. As I am putting together boxes of items, I am realizing that because I have some pretty cool items, I definitely want to be as savvy about this as humanly possible. Obviously I, just like most anyone who enjoys money and hates people who steal from others, do not want anyone stealing anything. I also clearly would like to think of any tactic possible as to how I can obtain the most money, as well as how I could possibly sell things I didn't necessarily think to sell.

Would any of you be so kind as to give me a few pointers on how to make this garage sale a big hit? What did you differently in the garage sales where you made the most money? Do you believe underpricing pays off more than keeping a firm/barely fluctuating decent price? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Mark prices a bit higher than what you actually expect to get for them. People love to haggle at sales, and then you can safely offer a decrease in price, and make the sale without incurring any loss.

As for theft prevention, keep big ticket items inside that would be easy to walk off with. Just put out a paper with a photo of the item and the price that states examination or purchase of the item is available upon request. And obviously accept cash only, and keep it in a safe place.
