I had two teeth removed and got a prescription for 20 5mg percocets. I had a sudden unexpected job offer, told the HR lady that I had dental surgery and had taken my legally prescribed pain meds..she said , no problem, just bring the bottle.. Well I passed with flying colors, did the urine test (positive for opiates ,which wasnt even on the DOT panel , prescibed opiates) but the PA was a crusader..She wanted me to bring a letter back from my dentist that this was a one time thing and he would never prescibe opiates to me in the future. Well I asked ....and my dentist fired me..Watch out..The Dead Kid legislation and the crusading moms who had stupid teens are gonna do their best to banish opiates..They cant touch guns or automobiles or MDMA or cocaine, so we will be the ones punished. The legits...

Thanks for letting me rant.

What the hell is up with your dentist? That's a ridiculous reaction to asking for a letter for a job, requested by the hiring company's HR. I wonder if he isn't supposed to prescribe those drugs but did in your case. I would think that if you showed the bottle of what you're taking, it would clearly show all is on the up and up. The other side of me says, why wouldn't the bottle suffice and why the hell are they asking for letters from doctors? It wasn't from a PM doc, it was a dentist for oral work. No dentist makes it a regular thing of prescribing opiates to their patients. I'm sorry but this situation really sucks! Do you have any recourse whatsoever? Any way of appealing? And BTW, while we're at it, it's just as well you uncover your dentist's true colors now. It's just as good he fired you because if he had refused to provide a letter to me in a similar case, I'd have fired him on the spot anyway. The whole thing just has a shady ring to it.....and I mean the dentist specifically!

Oh the dentist is not the bad guy, its that Physicians Assistant..The dentist and all people with a DEA number are under heat..Lortabs used to be schedule 3 now they are 2..This is all due to the crusaders who want to go after opiates because of some personal reason. Mostly moms whose stupid kids took 20 pills and died, i.e.Ryans Law..Remember it was crusading moms and wives who got the Volstead act passed and brought organized crime into every town in America. Some laws are just passed to make people feel emotionally better but do nothing to stop a problem. Like you said, I should have just shown the bottle, even the lab gave me a negative for opiates.

What PA? This makes no sense. It's basically a clerk that gives you an employment drug test, you should have told them to fuck off.

Unfortunately, BL does not allow drug testing questions.

A physician assistant, Felonious can be more than just a clerk. They have prescribing authority in many states including narcs but this is a dentist so not sure if thats the case.

That's awful if you got passed over from a job because of this. I had a dentist receptionist get nasty when I tried to reschedule my appointment for the second time. I found a new dentist. If there is someone else you could talk to like an office manager, I would try that. Sorry, I have to close this as since drug test discussion is not allowed. Wish you luck though.
