Just thinking condoms are uncomfortable for most people and not good for true feeling, the pill make females mentally ill or cause other problems like cancer with long term use, the pill doesn’t protect you against STDs and can get pregnant sometimes if it fails. What if in future they invented a contraception pill that protected you against everything, the full whammy! No STDs and no Aids and no unwanted pregnancies, no problems! Would this create another sexual revolution and would be no stigma or angst against sex and would make it simple as getting a handshake for everybody because you don’t have to worry about safety anymore? Is that possible in future?

In the far future I think it's likely we will rewire our genetic code so that fertility and conception is under our conscious control rather than the current random, hit and miss situation. And for sure, we all hope one day STDs and the like will be a thing of the past.

Of course some people will resist it, you'll get the religious nutjobs who say it's playing God, and the well meaning but just stuck in their ways people who say it's just wrong because it's unnatural, will devalue sex, intimacy, closeness, etc... and no doubt that might be partly true for a time... but the eventual result, if society survives it, as it surely will given the other challenges we've faced and continue to face as a species - the eventual outcome will be that everyone is just far less repressed and more comfortable with sex, sexuality, intimacy, both physical and emotional, which can surely only lead to a more open and honest culture where people no longer feel the need to hide parts of themselves from their fellow human being.

For the record I dont think that the decisive decoupling of sex and conception will be the catalyst and deciding factor here - rather, this event will be just a part of a gradual process of expunging our innate evolutionary fear of being vulnerable in the presence of others, fear of the other, this microcosmic iteration of the tribalism that once helped us to survive in a harsh and brutal natural world but now threatens to destroy us before a more enlightened future such as the one I've alluded to above can ever come to pass.

Yeah I just had thought you could in future make future babies that all have built in genetically modified contraception, when they grow up, no diseases and no pregnancy genes, they could fuck all day, anytime and not worry, but if you want to get pregnant you have to ask the government for a pill for gene to be reversed to allow pregnancy only for people who are fit to be parents. Would that be future fascistic?

I doubt there will be such a perfect birth and std control in the foreseeable future.

But say there is, I don't think the outcome will be what you suggest. Sure there probably would be an increase in people having casual sex. But there will still be stigmas. Angst. Etc.

Because I don't think those things are the result simply of sex potentially causing stds or pregnancy.

Even putting those issues aside, sex if a very intimate part of human existence. It might always have idiosyncrasies, taboos, and people trying to police it as a result.

It's possible it could change as part of a general change in culture, but I suspect there will always be arguing about sex so long as there are people.
