The Sheds - Anyone miss them?

This topic has been one of, at times, very heated debate on bluelight in the past. Opinions have ranged from a love of the venue, to pure hatred (To quote Psyentist: "Burn the fucking docks").
As we all now know, the infamous Sheds 2, 4, and 14 will no longer be used for parties. Events such as Belfast, Gatecrasher, and the Hardware series of parties will be forced to find new venues - many of them ending up in nightclubs.
With this in mind as well as the much publicised sound and crowd problems which occurred near the end, who here actually misses the venue, and who here still maintains that they were officially dead. Has anyone changed their opinion of the sheds as a venue with the benefit of hindsight?
It's a fact that these will NOT be ever used again as a rave venue (some would argue that they never were). But I want to hear what people now think, if the venues were still available. Would people prefer to see Jeff Mills at Shed 14, or at The Chevron? Were the crowd issues a big enough problem for people that shed parties lost all enjoyment? Were they really killing the rave scene as some suggested? What direction do people think the scene would have gone in over the last 5 months if the sheds were still available?
Who want's them back, and who would put a torch to them?

yeh i miss the docks, look where the whole 'scene' has gone now they are gone.....all it is, is clubs, i could see how people could have got sik of them, but now they are gone, i realise that i did take them for granted

of course i would rather see Jeff Mills at Shed 14 rather than the Chevron, but ahhh well all good things come to end, and the docks was one of them

there has to be some more venue's out there tho, what about where Crowd Pleaser was.....?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think most people who disliked the docks did so because of the regularity that they got used. For a bit _everything_ was at the docks.
But personally, if I had to choose between always having parties at the docks, or always having them at QBH - then I'd choose the docks.
The trick, I think, is to try and find those new venues out there. They have to be there somewhere (although thats not taking EPA/council issues into account). Sigh.

is there an alternative that will allow parties of that scale? i don't think so (maybe Melbourne Park?).
i realise some people hated the big parties, but i still managed to love the docks. it sucks not having at least the *option* to go there anymore, regardless of what you personally thought of the place.
and i never have a problem with the crowd at parties, cos i bring my own little crowd of choice party peeps! so there!

the whole big venue small venue argument comes and goes all the time...yes, for a while every (figuratively speaking)fucking party was at the Docklands and so we got sick of em...but now people want them back cause the club venues are too crowded. A case of the grass is always greener on the other side perhaps?
Anyways, all I can say is enjoy the parties you go to regardless of venue and make the best of the situation - shit, I sound like we're being forced to go these things...

No, I am under 18 and do not wish to enter this adult website

Yeah true, but having the option of either a smaller venue or a massive party would be good. It seems as though Melbourne park and the showgrounds (during the day) will be the host of a few massive parties. Always got earthcore for the big outdoor superdoof as well. Altona seems a little gone now because of the OD related incident. Kryal rocks but its a tad cold during the winter for the outdoor part and a little way to travel, however it rocks

. And there isnt really many other places yet, unless they make some Super DOME for raves.... anyone want to fund it?

i miss the docks

Even though I was nearly always dissapointed with the crowd at the docks, I still managed to have a lot of good times there. Admittedly the good times all seem to date back 2-3 years when the crowd was a lot more genuine. I never considered the docks to be the greatest venue but it's sheer size was greatly working in its favour. Yes, I will miss the docks, but only because now we have no choice but to put up with pathetic excuses for a venue like Chevron.

oh my god!! look, over there, over the fence!
its the grass!!
and its green!

...got a place for watching that will paint pictures and colour lights...

Although the docks have seemed to pass into legend I'm there are many other venues that could house big numbers with that ware housy feel. I've always thought avalon airport would be good. Its not an airport that is open at night, its far away from everything and hangers are way bigger than the docks sheds. But I'm sure there are heaps of places and its just going to take the promoters a little while to re adress their strategies brfore moving on. In the mean time Clubs are the easiest option.

To the one you feel in the metronome of your mind.
Does it offend you that our rhythm looks strange.
Or causes your thinking to be re arranged.
Could it be that you would understand this beat to which we dance
more clearly had you been given a chance
So as you struggle to find the feel with your feet
Ask yourself can you dance to my beat!

Don't miss the docks... Their only appeal was rooted in the old warehouse cliche, which quickly grew thin. Not to say clubs are a better replacement, but there still exist many more innovative places to throw parties. Fuck da docks, they possesed less vibe than a visit to the proctologist. Bring on the Royal Exibition Buildings!

Good fucking riddance to the docks. Couldn't give two tosses that its gone. Anythings gotta be better than sheds 2 and 4.
Two Tribes was held at Melbourne Park this year....I dont think many people would complain about the venue too much (apart from the bouncers)
Knock em down, build a playground for the rich and famous....maybe they can do something decent with it

(btw, although these ARE my views, i'm merely chucking a spanner in the works)

I think most people were over the docks by the time they closed. Welcome 2000 was the last party we enjoyed there.
What about somewhere like the forum? We went to the Brixton Academy (London) for NYE 2001 - Return to the Source - and had a great nite. The place was decked out like a an old castle (including medieval armour!!). I don't know how many it would hold (more than the chevron though). Has anyone been to glam? what's that like?
just another 0.02 worth...

um..... redmojo...I was at Brixton Acedemy for Return to the Source, NYE!!!!....
HOW WICKED WAS IT????
how good was the music?!?!?! And the set up, and the people etc....
Wow, its a small world isnt it!

yeh the docks rocked .. i have millions of good memories there, hopefully AltonA will still be used occasionally, wish spencer st car park was still used too.. the shed used 4 CrowdPLEASER is mad, but could never hold the amount of people the docks could..whinge whinge blah blah..
4 me i would much prefer to see Jeff Mills in a huge warehouse than a club! 4 sure! i think its crap events get sold out n thousands of people hafta squish into a club.. bring on the big parties!

seems like im prolly in the minority, but i miss the docks..not sheds 2+4 really...they were just huge concrete jungles...but the other..smaller..older sheds with more charicter..i loved em..with the dim lit courtyard and the old rotten timber for walls
wink.gif
..added to the fun of it all...and i try to tell me g/f how good they were....because she never went to any parties there....pity itll never happen now....like that view ya had on a foggy nite..of the city skyline..and in later days bolte bridge..how good was it!
smile.gif

Personally I never had a problem with the docks but some venues [eg victorian flower centre] seemed to have better facilities. But any hardware party [not just at the docks] seems to have shit facilities. Maybe it will facilitate more venues with better facilities.
and one for the road FACILITIES!

shed 14?
yeah sad, but...
does anyone remember global village?
...now i'm teary

each other,' said the unicorn,

animate: I've went to two parties at Global Village... The first was Every Pic 9, and the second was some small one which I can't really remember... Every Pic was absolutely awesome, damn well blew me away... Was my first exposure to the whole 'scene' and it was a bulk awesome one! But the second time was just crap... The atmosphere was completely different, the people were really skanky and scary and the music was pretty crap...
The moral of the story for all those reading... The venue doesn't make the party... Global village was one of the best 'underground rave' venues, anyone who went there back when it was still open would be able to tell you stories of how great it was... But it doesn't mean every party there is gonna be great...
Oh yeah, Dune was held there too... I can't remember what year, but Mark NRG played there I think... They didn't have the multilevel setup like they used to, but it was still ok... Not as good as Every Pic tho
frown.gif

As for the docks, my first few big parties were there when I started taking drugs, and they were fun but then so are plenty of the parties I've been to since...
All in all I don't care where we party as long as the music, production, decore, etc are done right and the people have the right attitude... All that creates a good atmosphere for me and can turn any venue into a good one...
