The REAL Difference between strains

The only explanation i've ever come across for one strains high being different from anothers is the ratio of the two main cannabinoids.


But this just cant be the only explanation. Weed is amazing. The highs from various strains can be so diverse so that its hard to call them the same plant.


Popular strains such as WW and Sour Diesel are specifically famous for the TYPE of high they give that no other strain does.

Why? how many factors can affect the high. They say that their are only two psychoactive cannabinoids in cannabis, THC and CBD. My point is that differeing ratios of those two chemicals alone simply CANT cause the vastly different highs of say Orange Kush and Alaskan Thunderfuck for example. I personally think naming strains is bulllshit and mostly a money making scheme but it serves to make my point more clear.

i think the flavour and smell also have alot to do with setting a certain 'high'
 
There are actually three cannibinoids, CDN (Canibinol), CBD (Cannibidol), and of course THC :). It is about more than those ratios but in all honesty, scientifically thats all that can be explained right now.

At least 66 cannabinoids have been isolated from cannabis according to wikipedia.
 
Price and marketing are the real difference, ultimately you have to put it in your lungs (or gut) to feel the difference.

Personally I'v never noticed much difference between different strains, the only difference is in how high I am.
 
There really isnt a whole lot of difference. Many strains are probably the same thing. And since so many strains are sold via seeds, then you can't really say much about the genetics of what you are getting.
 
I think strains may not matter to the casual smoker or one who smokes only to get high but there are some people who really, really appreciate fine cannabis. It's similar to how some people only appreciate food to satisfy their hunger but others treat cuisine as a gastronomical art form. With cannabis, nuances like color, smell, taste, grow style, and trichome coverage combine with effects like headiness, body high, appetite stimulation, auditory enhancement, visual enhancement, and pain relief to provide an ideal experience. These characteristics truly vary from strain to strain and are amplified further when vaporizing as opposed to smoking.

Granted, some med clubs and local dealers may use names to reap profits but there are circles of breeders and growers working vary hard to develop new strains with specific and desirable qualities.
 
If you actually have different stains of weed, and not different names for the same shit... then yeah you can tell your smoking different bud. The taste, the high, so much can change between different strains.

That is simply not true. Though it is a fact that most of the great names that we encounter are just crossbreeds of other strains, which have also been crossed, and so on. There are infinite combinations of mutt strains out there that are indeed very similar and have different names. However, there are also many many different strains and phenotypes of strains that are in fact very different from one another.
