Obviously not one of mine, but I just thought it was tragically beautiful.

On May Day, just after leaving her fiancé, 23-year-old Evelyn McHale wrote a note. 'He is much better off without me ... I wouldn't make a good wife for anybody,' ... Then she crossed it out. She went to the observation platform of the Empire State Building. Through the mist she gazed at the street, 86 floors below. Then she jumped. In her desperate determination she leaped clear of the setbacks and hit a United Nations limousine parked at the curb. Across the street photography student Robert Wiles heard an explosive crash. Just four minutes after Evelyn McHale's death Wiles got this picture of death's violence and its composure.

Ooh! Nice pic, Jude. Loving the gnarly stone stuff. May I enquire which seaside it is?

Tribal: I agree that that pic - and the backstory - are really very touching. Things like this always make me so very thankful that I survived all those tortuous early relationships. All seems so unbelievably important in the moment but so insignificant so soon after...

Gorgeous pics, RA. Loving your kite work there :)

PS: Moved this to the photgraphy thread, what with it being photography and all ;)

PPS: How were they taken, if you don't mind me asking? Guessing you weren't on the kite snapping away yourself.

i've fallen in <3 with my DSLR again. i had forgotten how good it was, the difference between it and my point n shoot is like night & day.

My lil brother reclaimed it, Felix. Don't have a camera myself. Not a digital one anyway. Got a couple of old film ones I'd love to crack out again sometime. Film and processing is pricey though. Damn pricey.

Actually, the place I volunteered at said I could keep their old one. Is a complete brick-sized, 2 megapixel piece of shit. Better than nowt though. Just need to find a way to get the pics onto this computer other than one at a time on floppy disc. Yup, it really is that old this camera - floppy disc :|
