Wire taps....paranoia?

A friend of mine has some sort of a suspicion that his home phone is being tapped. He says that when certain people call or certain conversations come up, he hears a little clicking noise. It seems unlikely that these assuptions are true because I know that wire taps are very expensive and he is pretty mush a middle man for medium amount of coke and shrooms. The only reason I consider is a possibility is because a guy who pushes a shitload of coke and crack doesn buisness with my friend on his home phone. Any opinions?

no

if the phone WAS tapped you wouldn't hear any clicks or anything on what not, since its all been digital for years now...

Doubtful. Any jackass can go to radio shack or the internet and buy a tapping device, just for the fun of it.
But if your friend suspects that his phone is tapped and is really worried, then he should stop making drug deals or whatnot over the phone. Then he would have nothing to worry about because he would'nt be giving out any incriminating information.
Heres the website address of some info on phone tapping that you might find useful.

^^^Thanks for the link c@sey_22.

As a matter of policy I won't post sources for wiretap detection equipment, but a simple Google search on "wiretap detection" yielded hundreds of results... and some of the products looked pretty good.

It's always preferable not to use electronic means of any sort to make plans to commit illegal acts.

As noted above, if you are being tapped by law enforcement (which is really not within the realm of possibility) you would in no way be able to detect it in any technical way. As for free-lance jugheads buying spy shit, why would they?

Sounds like some serious drug-induced anxiety. My favorite example was an immense cokehead who not only thought he was tapped, but being followed and having his house surveilled. He was rich as well as a victim of what was becoming cocaine psychosis, so when I wouldn't take his money to do really wasteful and futile legal work, some PIs wormed their way into him and he spent tens of thousands of dollars paying them to stake out his house and run down the licenses on literally hundreds of vehicles that passed his house every week. And then came the day he insists that he fought hand to hand with ninja-clad DEA agents at 3:00 a.m. in his yard. Any of this sound a little familiar to you?

^^^Hi, and welcome to Bluelight.

Since there was a really similar question already in existence, I merged your thread with that question; we can continue the discussion there.

Is it safe to talk on cell phones ?

Depending on what you talk about ;)

If you mean, Can a cell phone be tapped --- YES it can...

In 1994 Congress enacted the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act (CALEA), sometimes called the "Digital Telephony" bill. CALEA requires telephone firms to make it easy to wiretap the nation's communication system.

How likely is it that you will be tapped??? That’s another thing...

Last year in the United States there were 1358 intercept orders -- of those, only 1273 were installed... As info --- it looks like only 154 of those were for a personal residence while 1046 were on a portable device...

The average cost per order was $54,586 -- pretty damn expensive!!!

Of the 1358 ordered, 1052 were for narcotics...

The link...

My suggestion to anyone using the phone about anything is to always pretend the phone is tapped --then you are always safe even though the likelihood of you being tapped is very little...

And my god, please don't think you can get on the phone and talk in code... You usually only end up confusing the person on the other end, not those who are tapping you...

I was federally indicted after one of my buddy’s lines was tapped -- it was almost funny listening to conversations over his phone in court..

Ouch, Been There. My sympathies. In most cases wiretaps are almost impossible to defend, which results in a high percentage of guilty pleas.

Are all phone calls monitored?

Cell phones, satelite phones, home phones, email, etc... any medium that is used for communication. Does the US gov. monitor all this? Now, I know they can not use it against you unless they have a warrant, BUT they do have access to doing this. So is no form of communication safe, except for word or mouth? And which branch of the gov. would handle this monstrous task.. my guess is the NSA or it's little brother CIA? thoughts?

Of course BL is being monitored by the DEA or some other branch of the gov.

I'm sorry mods, I didn't know where to put this, but I feel like OD is my home so I just put it here, but you have the power..

Well does it really matter? Your not implicating yourself in any illegal activity (apart from drug use) by being on here. I assume the quantities you consume or have at any one time are too small for you to be arrested for dealing...and let's imagine that your phonecalls are being recorded and processed, your emails filtered and your name is down on a long list (and it will be a long list) of people suspected of involvement with drugs, what are the chances that anything will come of it. Pretty small.

And that's assuming your being monitored. It's just not worth worrying about, unless you are running a large drugs ring, in which case you probably would be part of this online community.

IIRC There are mass-telecommunication centres in some western countries that process a huge %age of the data traffic sent by email/web/phone/etc searching for specific words or phrases to do with various illegal things. I'm sure I read that on here or on anotehr forum site. It was backed up with some proof too, but I can't remember what.

Emailing something like "Bob, can you bring round that 1/8 you've got in your house please" isn't going to be worth the Law's time. Constant back and for emails like "I've got the half ton of TNT. Jim's packed the van full of it and we'll drive it into the Government office in town at 3pm" might be picked up by the system if its part of a long term correspondance.
I've discussed buying drugs via email or text messaging. I try to do it as little as possible obviously but once in a while wouldn't be noticed probably.
Small time people aren't worth a huge investigation shifting through terabytes of information looking for a few things to get enough for a warrant or arrest. Large time dealers / terrorists etc would have more sense than use such open means of communication without at least having some form of code.

Maybe there's a DEA agent reading this very sentence right now. If so, Hi :), its a nice website isn't it. I'm sure if they were really bothered they could trall through the entire site, including archives looking for every post of mine, or yours or anyones (who have a high enough post count) and narrow down who we are to less than 10 people, maybe even to us exactly, but it would take too much time and resources to do that and then to come and arrest us. Besides, where's the proof I've taken drugs? I could just be lying to make make myself feel big on a website in front of strangers. I'm sure there are some people on here who are like that.

For all you guys know I'm a DEA agent myself who just reads other peoples posts and makes up posts about myself to fit in by modifying stories I've read. I might never have taken E or Speed and just lie about it so you lot feel comfortable talking to me.

I'm not though (no really, I'm not!).

Maybe they are watching me now.......

Doesn't matter, I'll put on my tin foil hat so they can't read my thoughts and when they come for me they'll never take me alive!!!

*cue evil laughter*

bluelight is located somewhere where the admin cannot be bothered...

same with sites like erowid and the hive,
they are located in places where its okay to let the general public know the information they are trying to get across.

yes! to monitor all 280 million US citizens, the US government has a department of 280 million "information workers"...

their office is a huge warehouse. i believe it's in the mid-west.
