I hate to post so much Scott Brown, but damn this guys good! There's plenty of good shit out there, I'll post more later.

(Note to the mods and Wooger. I didn't want to steal your thunder, which is why I gave you credit. I realize these are the same threads, but I thought we needed an official thread, and I had wanted to make one for a while. Maybe they could be merged?)

Hmm, I don't listen to a lot of Hardcore, but we already have a HHC thread. Is this thread gonna be sufficiently different from the HHC thread?

Well the happy hardcore thread isn't exactly the same. It's called something like "who likes happy hardcore" and the majority of people in it just say "no I don't like it". Can't we have an official one where we just talk tracks? :)

Fair enough, sounds good to me! :)

Well I hope that it ends up being sufficiently different than the happy hardcore thread. I know a lot of people consider UK Hardcore and Happy Hardcore the same, but they really aren't. I guess it's splitting hairs but to me it's the difference between cheesy sometimes kiddie music with silly lyrics, and epic synths with generic but adrenaline pumping bass kicks, maybe some samples here and there. From my understanding a lot of older happy hardcore fans don't like UK Hardcore because it is too trancy and not much like hardcore at all. Unfortunately for my case, UK Hardcore is widely available on happyhardcore.com and is often referred to as happy hardcore, but a lot of people call electronic music as a whole "techno" and technoheads lose sleep over it so... such is life. So... In my opinion...

Happy Hardcore:
Scott Brown & Gillian Tennant - Every Time I Close My Eyes
Triple J - Have It All

After that, the genre seems to have split in a couple directions. One of them is a newer interpretation of the same style, with the same cheesy lyrics, bouncy beats, sometimes kiddie noises and whistles, and that is what everyone equates happy hardcore as.

Another direction was UK Hardcore, a modern evolution of the genre that takes itself a bit more seriously:
Harry H - Let's Rock

I don't claim to be an expert, but that's how I see it. The genres are way different to me, I can't really listen to happy hardcore anymore, but I love some UK Hardcore at times. Sorry for the rant.

I think the "glory days" were well before 2003. I remember when you could listen to Hixxy play and he would play rare tunes from abstract labels that you'd have to have a good hunt around to find. I think it was better when DJs didn't just play their own tracks.

Anything by Triple J was awesome especially 'Have It All', 4 Tune Fairytales - My Little Fantasy was some great cheese. All the tracks off of Sharkey's 'Hard Life' Album were top quality especially the Awakening.

And of course you cant forget 'Bang! - Shooting Star' which could be my favourite all time track.

You obviously didn't read his post because he lists the first two as happy hardcore (which he says is not his style) and then lists a UK Hardcore song that doesn't sound like the first two. Happy Hardcore and UK Hardcore really do have a different sound, and when you say the Neophyte song is nasty, I'm not sure if you mean nasty as in good, but if you do Neophyte produces a lot of UK Hardcore, which is what this thread is all about.
