Okay, I tried to find a thread on this but couldn't. So I figured I'd make one...

What are some of your favourite Psychedelic rock bands? Or songs? Or albums? I'm talkin' stuff that makes you wonder if that glass of water you drank was just straight up lysergic.

For me, the epitome of my favourite 'style' of psychedelic rock would have to be '1983...(A Merman I Should Turn To Be)' by Jimi Hendrix. This also applies to my favourite artist, as he a plethora of mouth watering psychedelic rock music.

Other bands like Big Brother and the Holding Company, Cream, Tame Impala, Ash Ra Temple, Amon Duul II, Can, Beatles, Floyd all deserve honourable mentions Sure I have forgotten a bunch, but that's enough for now.

What are your thoughts? Doesn't need to be from the 60's and 70's in particular. Just curious to hear other peoples opinions!
 
As far as this millennium goes The Chap, MGMT, and My Morning Jacket are pretty good. I like psychedelic music, Barret Floyd is probably my favorite.

newer. But very mellow and slow trippy music. Melodic, not abrasive at all.

Arthur Browns Kingdom Come
almost electronic, but made in the early seventies. Very good music

Grizzly Bear, Modest mouse (moon and Antarctica is a trippy album), Funkadelic, Parliament (not really rock but close enough), Gong (one of the best 70's psych bands imo), sunset rubdown, swan lake, the unicorns, ugly cassanova

Dead meadow is kind of lame and unstimulating in my opinion, I like one song though I forgot which one. But they definitely bore the shit out of me. Maybe I'm just too into music or something :\

How come nobody said Grateful Dead yet? What is wrong with you people?

Radiohead (It's not what they're going for but they are definitely psychedelic.

The Beatles

Jefferson Airplane

All of these artists were groundbreaking in their contributions to music. That's the kind of stuff I like, stuff that's never been done before.

If you can name a psychedelic band that you think is better than these let me know because I would like to see that if it's even possible.

Colour Haze actually make The Best Psychedelic Rock. No, really, I'm serious. They're just better at it than anyone else. I don't know how they do it (although they've had 15+ years and 9 albums to practice) but somehow, they've ascended together to some level of mastery that I've never heard another band reach.
