The official 2007-2008 NCAA Basketball thread

So, our Gators finally crack the top 25, still with 1 jr & 3 so & 8 freshmen, I think we'll be damn lucky to make the NCAA this year. We're more likely to go NIT :\ We are sooooo in a rebuilding year. People are trying to get excited that we're 4-0 (against nobodies...), I just don't feel it. Going to be plenty of lumps for these kids to bear this season.

Honestly, I haven't gotten geared up for this yet, with a few more weeks of football to go - despite my despair and 'giving up' repeatedly on the football season :| I'll check back on this in a bit (about 2 weeks) and be more well versed for this discussion. Hell, right now, I couldn't tell you any teams rank other than NC being near the top.

Watched the Arizona St - LSU game the other day.....

LSU has lots of good raw talent but has a good bit of maturing to do before they can make some noise this year.....

We'll see as the season unfolds.....

Hahaha....UF is 13-2 with a SoS of 340 out of 341 schools. Gonna be a great year. At least we beat Alabama last night at their place. Most of the fans are predicting we'll win 6-10 games in the SEC this year :\

the only game I watched this year was Ohio State stomping on the Florida Gators. it was a nice consolation prize ;) now that football season is over I will become much more involved. but I don't think the Buckeyes have a chance at winning the Big 10. teams like Indiana and Michigan State look to make a run this year.

So little discussion on this subject... I think we're all in the same boat as the majority of the fans, a serious case of the BLAHs on this basketball season :\ I can't even talk up my Gators, other than to point out how we're very close to becoming the first team in 19 years to win the NCAA then not make the tournament the next year :o Still, like Axl, I'm sure there are a few people out there who are getting a periodic joy from some little part of this basketball season, even if it's only winning over a team you don't like.

At this point, the season is almost over, and nobody I know is real excited :\ Except for Tennessee fans ;) Never fear, I'm sure I...or one of you...will get a bracket thingy going this year as well. Maybe that'll put some life into this thread...otherwise we're adding another month of nothingness until football starts back up.

This season seems to be very uneventful. I am a homer fan when it comes to College BB, I root for OSU and Wright State.

OSU looks like they might get an at large bid, Wright State has had a great year but will have to win the Horizon League Tourny to get in.

On the other hand, this might be the first time I will be interested in the NIT, as early bracket projections have Wright State taking on Dayton in the first round.

Dayton, who has been to scared to play Wright State ever since 1998, might have to see first hand that they are no longer the top dog in the Dayton area...Good stuff for Dayton area BB fans, but prolly no one else here could give .2 cents on this subject. Oh well, there's my contribution.

Part of me hopes OSU doesn't make it (though I think they've already earned an at-large) just so we could set some kind of history mark for the first time the NCAA champ and runner up BOTH don't make the tournament the following year :\ Reality is, I think OSU is in and unless my Gators do something special (and the last several games showed me they can't), UF will be NIT.

I try not to take it too hard, knowing we've got 1 junior and 0 seniors, so a down year is expected. But we're barely even in conference play when our conference (SEC) is undoubtedly down this year. We were in the last 3 games but never quite close enough. Everytime I hear "Wait 'til next year" in my mind I cringe, because I grew up with that thinking it was the school motto for both football and basketball :\

I think I'm going to throw up.

So, if UF doesn't make the NCAA, I sincerely doubt I'll be able to bring myself to make a bracket for everyone this year...probably won't even participate. I will give a nod to UCLA as probably making the final four, and if I have to pick someone to cheer for it would be TEN (yeah, I hate them in football, but I have a lot of respect and love for a guy as nutty as Bruce Pearl).

For those interested, I came across this:

^^ srsly, best fuckin' username ever. HOLY FUCK it's a sweet name. I'm not even high, I just can't stop saying it outloud.

It's the looooove bandit.

man. holy. fuckin a.

Anyways, shout out to Florida State for beating Wake Forest today. Nice work fellas.

I love March Madness on Demand...it has been a great friend the last couple of years. :D

Go Miami Hurricanes! We beat NC State today, hopefully we can make it past Virginia Tech in the ACC tournament. I really think that this team has some potential in the NCAA to be something of a cinderella this year. Jack McClinton's 3-point shooting can make miracles happen if he gets hot.

Can't.

Freaking.

Win.

Anything.

I'll be UF gets to host a first round NIT game against Barnes&Nobles or some crap place, and we'll lose...again...by like 5-30 points. Dammit.

I wish they played tomorrow so I can actually say the season is over and get on with my life, leaving this pain behind.

Closing out with 1 jr, 3 so, and the rest being freshman - at least next year can't be this bad again. God, I'm out of this thread. See you guys when football rolls around again.

I am about to leave to watch the rest of the Big Ten Tournament where Ohio State is playing the superior Michigan State. hopefully OSU can upset MSU like they did in the first round against Purdue.

OSU has at least solidified its chances of being included in the NCAA tourney while the Gators will be going to the NIT.

this is great news :)

minnesota will take any chance osu has away after they win the big ten tourney;)

tubby will get it done there within a year or two, cant wait

^ say what? I do not believe that Indianapolis has a Big 10 basketball team.

they beat Wisconsin @ Indy, and yes it was a great game. nice buzzer beating shot at the end. I always like to see the underdog win as a good American sports fan.
