the new consoles thread (not ms, sony or nintendo).

that treadmill looks so ridiculous.

so i'm on board

but i thought it was an adapter/controller, i didn't know it was going to be a separate console.

Well, games have to be specifically programmed for the Oculus Rift, so I think it at least qualifies as a "development platform" if not a full-blown console.

Still, it's at least 10,000 times more interesting than the Ouya.

fine, i'll let it stay in the thread, then ;) :p

did you hear what the ouya crew did at e3? they set up their "free stand" outside in the carpark. .... it was promptly shut down by security.

Steambox seems kind of like a niche product tbh

its like a console but comes with different specs at each price point, and you can just build a better computer for cheaper

so im not really sure who their target audience is, since console buyers arent going to want a console that's obsolete in 2-3 years and PC gamers will stick to PCs

but Valve has a good track record so I'll hold judgement until all the details are released

I am stoked for Left 4 Dead 3 though

yeah the only way i imagine it would thrive is if it makes valve games exclusives. half life, l4d and portal each have massive fan bases.

it couldnt be Steambox exclusive because Steam is mostly still going to be used by people on their PCs.

thats where Im not fully sure of all the details, as in, what makes it different from the computer in your home office or what have you.

i have no idea either. the last i heard is they might join with apple for the console. all rumours so far.

that would be a horrible idea

I can see an Apple console costing 600+ dollars easily

Flash forward to 2012, and gaming is rocking Apple's world in a big, cash-cow way on the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. It even has a Game Center where iOS device owners can make friends, hook up to play multiplayer games and share scores. We're even told by many app developers that iOS is the favored platform mostly because of a limited hardware set and the insane popularity of Apple's iPad.

this is exactly what is wrong with the video game industry today, it's all about nickel and diming people

shit, that's what's wrong with our society really

I fucking hate Apple and they will NEVER be accepted by PC gamers because their BULLSHIT is so obvious

and I don't even game anymore, imagine how an actual fanboy would feel

Valve better not do that

check out my new Apple gaming PC

Hate to be a hater but I'm going to hate - all of this looks terrible. And as shimazu said - seriously fuck apple. I don't want to get people all offended or anything but I grew up on Apple, have used both systems extensively - I really don't see any redeeming value out of Apple products whatsoever. They have completely restrictive policies regarding their hardware, software, and even the content you "purchase" (I use that term loosely). The company that has lead the way on DRM? Apple.

It's PC for me all the way. I was almost suckered into buying an Xbox 1 but screw all that noise. I'm going to continue what I've been doing for 10 years now - plan out the components of my system to get the best bang for my buck and put it together myself.

found this picture of the form to request using a non-proprietary part which must be filled out with two Apple employees as witnesses

the apple on the right was just coincidence actually lol

Motherfucking OCULUS RIFT, son!

Hook that shit up with an Omni Treadmill and you got yourself a nice goddamn evening.

I tried the oculus rift for the first time this weekend, and omg, let me tell you... IT WAS AMAZING. The one downside I've seen in my short use of it was motion sickness. I'm not one to EVER get motion sickness besides maybe from to many OEVs and CEVs on psychedelics, but after 20 mins of using it I started to feel sick.

When I was trying it out, first I was using it with some cool underwater simulator or whatever you want to call it. Essentially you just walk around in these canyons underwater and try to avoid getting NOM'd by some sharks. Next I played a little bit of one of the early chapters in HL2. Both were awesome, but playing HL2 on it was insanely awesome. There are some flaws with it's use for HL2, like I couldn't see my health/armor or my ammo. However, playing a first person shooter was really cool. It honestly felt pretty natural.

Can't wait to see were it heads from its current version

Sales of Dramamine and ginger are going to skyrocket once Oculus drops.

good game had a good review of oculus. the nausea affected people differently and some games were better than others. they speculated it might have been related to whether the firing reticule was linked to your head or your controller, the latter feeling more natural. another possibility is the current version is low res.

one way or another, i am now interested.

Yeah I saw that review also. I assume the same people who get sick at 3D movies might be the worse effected. The flight simulator looked fucking cool, particularly being able to turn around and look behind during a dog fight. Third person shooters would be awesome with one (or two) of these. Eventually add a pressure suit to mimick being hit and you might not have to leave the virtual world again.

I think I might check out of this reality once the japan exclusive title "flying unicorn in sailor costume sex sim city" becomes available at ozgameshop.
