The Bluelight 2.0.08 splash page discussion!

SA - Just plunking it in the middle of the header is feasible, but if done that way, we'd probably want to tie it to the list of current studies. I think we've got a standardized size requirement for banners in this regard, so sizing wouldn't be an issue and having this tied to it would help both aspects, I think.

However, that being said, my personal preference was to have it with your first option - top right inline with our logo. I can understand how that might get overlooked and blend in, but I'm concerned that we'll be cramming too much into the header space (look at AusDD or ED for an idea of how crowded things have gotten already) :\

I would love to fine tune the banner itself, so it is either on a textured background like this or so that it at least reflects/incorporates a white 1px strip along the bottom, to fall in line with the rest of the header. Unfortunately, I suck at animated gifs. I may give it a shot at some time in the future (when I'm in the right frame of mind again, lol).

Please let me know if I missed or screwed up something.

Not to brag but i have uber 3d skills (maya 8.5) and I like doing manual labor such as photoshop---I'm a designer yes, but coding bleh :p just pm or email be some way or another.... :)
 
I'm glad you bumped this - and thank you for the offer. I think now that we have SA up in an Admin capacity, and we're hoping to migrate to a newer version of the site software (sometime...probably a few months out still) we may take the opportunity to improve a few things around here. I really hope this concept can be revisited at that time.
 
Thank you for the offer, bennymore. I (for one) would LOVE to have Bluelight eye-candied by bluelighters, as we know there are some truly gifted artists and pixel masters in our midst. When we complete the next major upgrade/migration, as TLB mentioned above, we'll certainly be revisiting the styles idea.
 
I still have a shit-ton of questions about this matter.

I have no doubt that there are plenty of able designers who can do great things for the visual aspect of this site... but there needs to be more coordination... above and beyond a basic contest.
 
It all hinges on the future theme, ego_loss. Once the final upgrade is done, and the theme decided on (whether the current one will be available for the upgrade, or a new one is picked instead), we can organise the banner/splash/whatever else better.
 
^james wants the splash page to look like pretty pretty princess. add some glittery text and unicorns!
