I'm 23 years old and have been consistently smoking hashish for the past three years—pretty much every day. On weekends, I smoke from before breakfast until after dinner. I’d say I’ve easily smoked over 1kg of hashish (ice-o-lator) in these three years. My longest period of sobriety/abstinence during this time was 50 consecutive days, plus another 50 days a year later.

After a while, I started experiencing depression, panic attacks, yadda yadda yadda... I became so dependent on THC that international travel became a problem. If I knew I was going somewhere where weed wasn’t legal, I’d start having anxiety even before the trip.

Now, I want to quit. I'm currently taking 15mg of mirtazapine and 25mg of Seroquel (I’ve been taking Seroquel for almost two years for sleep). Do you think gradually reducing my consumption, as well as switching to a less potent material (for example, smoking only flower instead of concentrates), could help ease my withdrawal? My issue with flower is its poor cost-benefit—it runs out too quickly and is expensive where I live.

I’d love to hear from my fellow stoners or ex-stoners because I’m at an important stage in my life, trying to graduate from college. Some of the problems caused by my chemical dependency have definitely affected my academic performance during critical periods.

I think I went on for too long here—sorry about that, and thanks again for the patience and understanding of those who read this far.

Cheers.

Yep, switch to flowers and write down how much it costs you. Then, when you want some more, look at the numbers. Oof! Keep that for a good occasion only.
I personally don't like hashish at all, it's too dumbing. Once you stop smoking it everyday, it will be clear to you (it seems like it already is since you are here and talking about academic issues)

Ty so much for the answer. Hopefully switching to flowers will help me let mary jane go without much suffering (trust me, quitting carts aint easy - it was almost as bad as my brief xanax WD, which happenned after i took like 2 2mg bars a day for a month or so). So im hoping to not have much cold sweats, irritability (as long as i can control it and dont mistreat others, im ok) . Well,. thank you again dude

Yeah, I know, I also had a period of thc cart use. So convenient and "efficient"! But they also send the tolerance sky high so in the end you waste a lot of money on carts instead. Good old flower (preferably without insane thc levels and some cbd too) is the eay to go when you want to chill. And when you don't, stay sober. Good luck 👍

Carts can raise your tolerance a bit quicker than flower and I do worry (and haven't brought up before) that there are no real long term studies done on concentrate. I know there is a big difference between say chewing cocoa leaves and extracting the alkaloid and snorting or worse smoking it -- Now my thoughts are THC is relatively harmless so I don't have much concern; that is some confirmation bias based logic though. On the other hand there is almost no way cessation of thc would compare in w/d effects to cessation of 4mg alprazolam per day. ( I would hypothesize you have not been addicted to benzos before that stint. Perhaps you were just shifting into being dependent but I think it is still objective to say that C/T 4mg benzos is an actual health risk (Seizures, death). Cessation of THC is hellish but more in a "damn am I bored" than "damn am I suffering" type of way IME. about 21 yrs of daily use minus two cessations for probation, very chronic smoker.

Not saying it will work for you or anyone who reads this but, when i have to stop using weed for an important reason (stopped for weeks, months or even years) i just tend to try to wait until later and later in the day before my first smoke/vape
then it gets to 10pm and i havent had any and one day i can just take it or leave it

This method has worked repeatedly for me in the past , if you can just get your overall tolerance down gradually like that then coming off it seems way less brutal

^this is a good strategy. For along time people tried to hold off till 4:20 to light up in my area -- kinda like dont drink before 6? (which arbitrary rules but if they help)
