Testing Surfaces

Just got my EZ-Test kit today =D I see where they say to use a white plate or plastic for testing surface. I have seen reports that looked like they affixed a piece of white copy paper under clear glass. Is that sufficient enough to make out the different colors? What about white plastic spoons? Just trying to get a feel for if I have one designated surface or if I can use a fresh plastic spoon for each test.

With the surface being white, it's easier to see the reactions; so it can be a plate, spoon, or even the clear glass as long as it's white under to easier examine the reactions.
