I am a new patient on Methadone Maintenance Treatment (MMT) and I am also prescribed to xanax. The doctor who gave me my xanax script gave it to me before i was on methadone and I never informed him of me getting on methadone. He is just a regular doctor and he told me that I should see a psychiatrist.

I made an appointment with a psychiatrist but my question is this:

Do I tell the psychiatrist I am on MMT? I go to a clinic and I pay with cash so insurance insn't involved. Theres no way that the Dr can find out I am on methadone right? Do you think he wont give me xanax if i am honest about my methadone treatment?

Should I just NOT tell him I am on methadone at all and have him take my other doctors place in writing me scripts?

Thanks for your replies!

So it depends on your motivation. Are you going to the psych just to get Xanax or are you going for actual help? If you are going for help and therapy then not discussing MMT is kind of ignoring the major deal in your life and a waste of time, all to save a Xanax script, which tells me your addictive behavior is still a problem.

Any doctor worth their diploma will not give a Xanax script to someone on MMT because of the classic and well known risk of overdose and death.

All of this sounds like your Xanax script is very precious to you. Why are you on MMT? Do you WANT to get clean?
