I noticed that drinking two Red Bulls after a dose of 10mg diazepam seems to intensify the hypnotic effects. Is it true that taurine mediates activity at GABA receptors?

Could just be from the caffeine speeding the metabolization much more likely imho since drinking a red bull makes an opiate stronger too like any other stimulant would

Taurine has a profound hypnotic feeling at high doses, 1-2g.

You can buy the pure powder from any good health food store.

I am sure that the sum of both Taurine and Diazepam would be much greater than the effect of the individual drugs.

I've always thought that taurine looked like a probable Gabaergic drug. I mean, compare it to Sulfonmethane.

Does that mean if I drank 2 red bulls(if they even tasted good never had one) that I would get a little better buzz off my daily 240mg methadone and valium 20mg 2x daily? that would be cool if just the Taurine was available, I'd run right out and try that combo.

well i got shit loads of it at home i will try within a week
don't think i will work but phenibut does so maybe a mix of the 2 will work

I need more of that and l-carnitine in my diet since i'm a vegetarian. Gonna start drinkin that dragonfruit vitamin water, or get a supplement.

I've mixed redbull with vodka before and it did make the effects better. Dunno if it was the taurine. More likely the caffeine and vitamins.

This is very interesting, I've always wondered why they put 2 grams of Taurine in energy drinks, never made any sense to me.

Today when I went to work I felt pretty awful, 2nd day of pod withdrawal and already I could barely function at work. I felt miserable and wanted to go home, I'm in enough pain as it is when I'm not withdrawing... Anyway, I tried one of those Taurine laden energy drinks and wanted to see if it would help my mindset for the day, maybe kill some of the anxiety I felt from withdrawing.

Sure enough, I felt somewhat better. Sure, there's caffeine, which many might think would cause any effects that were noted, but I remember when I drank my coffee during my last withdrawal episode it never helped a damn bit. Also I have zero tolerance for GABA effecting drugs.

Or maybe it was just plain placebo. I dunno.

Taurine is believed to be involved in stress-coping mechanisms in the brain, so it's possible. Personally I've been taking taurine supplements and comparing the results with my Klonopin and Dexedrine prescriptions. I find that taurine will potentiate the effects of either one individually (the stim effects of the dex or the stress reduction of the kpin) but taking all 3 in combination has turned out bad every time.

Not sure of the exact pharmacology but I suspect both drugs catalyze reactions that make use of or are potentiated by taurine, and the kind of tug-of-war which results tends to give me headaches, nausea, sweating, dehydration, etc. It persists for quite a while, and is really unpleasant. So if you're planning on taking an amphetamine-type stimulant and then using a benzodiazepine for the comedown, I suggest caution at the very least if you're considering taking large amounts of taurine.

Personally I find Benadryl/diphenhydramine a better benzo potentiator but if you're using it for fun you may sleep through it. Be very conservative with the dosages if you try this, most benzo prescriptions have warning labels about mixing with antihistamines.

Your mileage may vary.

Taurine and Phenibut are often mixed in 'Stress Relieving' preparations. I have a graph of its effecacy vs. Phenibut alone. I will try and find it and post.

Hmm... I've been trying to think of a way to get a hold of my monkey without access to benzos... perhaps a combination of taurine and phenibut might help with the anxiety and help me to sleep a little. THat's definitely the worst part... I need my sleep.

^You do realize that you do not need to drink all that sugar to get your taurine intake.

All good health food shops stock taurine in a power form.

Make sure to read up on long term effects though, as you need to be educated about this drug before using it on a long term basis in any quantity.

I know this is quite an old thread and I thought it might be worth bringing back up again. I don't know if that's the normal way of doing things but I hope that its alright that Im adding to a dead thread. I was REALLY curious to see what information I could find on Taurine and any relation to GABA and Glutamate. Those are two neurotransmitters that I know are connected, but I'm not confident enough to say for sure how the two are connected, I know Glutamate is the metabolic precursor of GABA. Someone with more education on the subject could explain it better then I could for sure. I've found some information about Taurine and GABA and Glutamate and Glycin. heres what it is.--------- http://www.life-enhancement.com/magazine/article/2879-taurine-important-brain-nutrient ------ this is also something I found ------ http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18605241

I thought they put taurine in energy drinks to reduce jitteriness from caffeine.

Anyways, 2g of taurine with a big glass of water will keep me sleeping through the night after a solid night of drinking (or even taking GHB but it works less so with G).
Nothing else does this (for me). Without taurine, I often would wake up 3-4 hours after going to bed, feeling like crap. For me also, when I first would start taking it after drinking to go to sleep, I would have crazy vivid dreams. Made it super entertaining and fun. My buddy on the other hand would have crazy night mares on it, so it doesn't work the same for everyone.
