I am on a low dose of Methadone on MMT and I sweat a lot, too much. My boss even commented at work. I have read about sweating when in withdrawal but I can't find anybody who sweats when on methadone. More strange, I don't sweat when in W/D like most. I have always sweat a little more than average but it's never been a lot or a problem like this. Does anyone know how to combat this?

I sweat on methadone too, but I'm on 130 mg/day. Clonidine is supposed to be good for sweats. I've tried it with mediocre results.

BTW, this is more of an OD thread, so off to OD it goes...

i sweat like a bitch and im only on 85 ml hate it especially as by the time i get tho the pharmacy i stink lol:)

I see..so I'm not the only one. It does suck, it's a quite noticeable side effect. Would exercise help? I walk a bit daily but that's about it, and I smoke. How healthy are you?

I know a dude like this,I think it's a side effect of the methadone myself, because he was never like that when he was banging morphine and oxycodone.and he's not sick while he's sweating either. He says he's comfortable aside from the sweats.

Exactly! I never sweat when abusing the shit out of all other the pharmaceutical opioids I've used, It's only the methadone. And I know two guys that go to the same clinic as me, much higher doses and they don't sweat - They trip that I do. And I'm not sick either, it's right after my dose and the whole time in between. I won't really sweat at home when totally calm, relaxed and temperature is nice but any physical activity, stress, excitement, hot weather, walking around a lot, that's when I sweat like crazy.

On both Methadone and Suboxone, my armpits sweated like a faucet. It was fucking miserable! I could get out of the shower, use a heavy-duty antiperspirant, and by the time I put on a t-shirt and got out the door, I already had giant pitstains under my arms. It wasn't nasty b.o. or anything, but almost like straight water. Talk about becoming self-conscious. It was especially bad when I was living in South Beach because the heat made it ten-fold and then it wasn't just the pits, it was the forehead, chest, etc. Bad shit. Got off the both of 'em and it hasn't been a problem since unless I'm really anxious or something, but that's a story for another day.

I'm on 250mg of methadone daily and I sweat like it's pouring rain whenever I exert myself. I'm don't mean hardcore exercise either - I'm talking about simple things around the house such as mowing the lawn or vacuuming. It's the worst around my forehead it seems. It drips onto whatever I'm working on. It's incredibly annoying and I now always have a small white towel with me just in case. You can try clonidine - I did but I couldn't tolerate the side effects.

I think a lot of us on MMT know what you're going through. I know I do...

P.S. I've been at the same dosage for about a year now and I don't sweat as bad as I used to if that helps at all.

This has to be the most annoying thing about methadone! People expect you to sweat when you're working out or some shit, but bending down to put on your shoes and you get up and your face has sweat beads on it is a little much. I always used to look forward to summer because I was always cold, but now I have to say I like cooler weather more than ever.

I've mentioned this side effect to the guy that runs my clinic and he said it is unfortunately pretty much the only side effect that your body doesn't
acclimate to. Most of the other side effects lessen if not disappear all together, the sweating and constipation are usually the two that stick around for the entirety of the treatment. The term they use is ''diaphoresis'' I'm not saying this will be the case for you, everybody is different and I'm also not saying there is nothing to treat it either because there are various options, I'm just not familiar with them personally, so I'll leave that to someone else to comment on.

I'm just giving you my experience and also what I've been told by the people who dispense the methadone. I've been on it for almost 2 years and it's still pretty bad at times, I really try to dress as cool as I can, which like I said is quite a change for me. Was always rockin the hoodies and stuff like that. And I never have experienced this from any of the other opiates I have used which was oxycontin and then heroin. The only time I noticed sweating was during withdrawal and that was more of a cold sweat, where I was cold but at the same time sweating, horrible feeling. This is different though, just annoying sweating.

Methadone did this to me too and it was horribly embarrassing. I had to sit constantly in in front of a fan or under air con. This was the main reason I stopped taking methadone and as soon as I stopped it went away. It was just too ridiculous and embarrassing.

I feel exactly the same way as you about this. I used to love going to the beach, camping or just hanging out during summer. But I sweat so badly now that I actually prefer winter (and I used to hate it with a passion).

Back to the OP's post, I forgot to mention that my clinic regularly tests its patients for testosterone levels as methadone over time reduces the amount produced/present in your body.

Regular testosterone levels for men within my age group 25-35 range (according to the lab I had the test done at) are between 6.0 - 27.0 NMOL/L. Mine was 1.3 NMOL/L.

Because of this, they began injecting me with testosterone (one shot every 4 weeks) - my point being that I began noticing that I didn't break out in sweats as easily as before. Later on, I was told by my doctor that testosterone injections do in fact help with sweating. Just don't expect it to completely take away the sweats.

Edit - I did a conversion to NG/DL since NMOL/L isn't used everywhere. Regular testosterone levels for men within my age group 25-35 range (according to the lab I had the test done at) are between 173 - 778 NG/DL. Mine was 37 NG/DL.

That's crazy about the testosterone. It doesn't make much difference for me personally because I'm a female, but it's still interesting.

Hello Bluelighters,

I am on Methadone Maintenance Treatement also at 110 milligrams, I've been on the clinic now 4 years and am currently Tapering from 140 milligrams. I also SWEAT like A HOG and it's very embarassing, what I have found to work is Cinnamon Supplements, they come in Tablet's and you can usually find them at The Dollar Tree or Grocery Outlet or anywhere that carries Supplements. Start out at like 1,000 milligrams and if that doesn't work, take more until it does work for your SWEATING! It's only Cinnamon so if you have to take a lot don't be scared, it won't hurt you! I hope this helps out my Fellow Methadonian's!!!

All my life I've been extremely sweaty, my DOC is oxycontin and I use every night when im at work. Out of a 9 hour shift im sitting down doing shit all for 8 hours, anyways every night I was on oxy I would sweat profusely.. Even when I was sitting down not doing anything I would still sweat CRAZY. Im not on the methadone program but I buy 2 100 mg bottles every saturday from a couple people and I rarely ever sweat on methadone unless I take a huge dose.

But I sweat everyday and all day at work, I'm sure my co-workers know something is up with me.

I'm gonna have to check this out. Never heard anything about cinnamon helping sweating and I didn't even realize that it was available in tablet form. I'm not big into supplements though, but I'm gonna look into it. Do you use it regularly then?

Ive been on mMT for three yrs. I've been as high as 100mg daily and currently at 40 daily. I'm convinced this is adrenergic hyperhydrosis. It is 90% mental for me, and definitely worse in summer. It's almost prohibitive to my job- resident physician. The testosterone theory is interesting,
And I'll be purchasing cinnamon supplement ASAP.
Thanks for starting thus thread!

Does anyone get this from a low dose, maybe 30mg or less? ^ Poster above me says he/she gets it at 40mg, that is still reasonably high of a dose in the grand scheme of things. I know that it is regular to see people at 70mg or more, but the amounts commonly suggested for maintenence are aroung 10-30mg, with 60mg being more than most people should theoretically need.
