The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a conservative challenge to the marijuana legalization laws adopted in Colorado and elsewhere that permit adults to buy, sell or use one ounce of the drug.

By a 6-2 vote, the justices turned away a lawsuit brought by Nebraska and Oklahoma, whose state attorneys complained that illegal marijuana was pouring into their states as a result of Colorado's liberalized laws.

So glad to see this.
Poor little Nebraska and Oklahoma getting flooded with dank weed. Boo hoo.... maybe instead of trying to back pedal like pussies they could get their own legal bud to profit off of. 8)

Wait to the United States federal court decided that states are capable of enacting their own laws and policies that they themselves are able to enforce... man this gives a whole new meaning to the term sovereign state, actually no it doesnt.

This is big news.
Very important, and lucky for those of us who believe in legalization.

Are they Sovereign States after all?

Are they Sovereign States after all?

Historically, there has always been a delicate balance between the states being sovereign entities and giving up some authority in order to belong to a greater republic.
People have argued about what the right balance is for the whole history of the US.

^ that was largely my point. The whole idea of individual states is they can govern themselves. We have a federal government we all pay into for added security but when it boils down to something like this I feel state sovereignty should win out every time. I may love socialism but it's the idea that we are a country of states that gives us individuality, to dissolve the state's by allowing them to enforce laws on one another is the definition of anti American in my mind.

You are so right szuko. I too love socialism, but I also love the ability for states to govern themselves. There are only certain laws that should be viewed nationally, and marijuana is not one of them. Having it legal in some states gives those that wish the smoke another right, they can emigrate to a state that is tolerant of use. First drugs should never have been federally banned. That is just some insane government overreach. It should have been up to the states to decide what you can and cannot do within the borders.

The governors of Nebraska and Oklahoma should use the fact people are using this pot as a teaching moment. There are enough constituents that want to smoke in their respective states that it is profitable for people to risk the penalties enacted by the states to supply it to those that want to smoke. Why not cut out the middle man and let the people that live in said states profit themselves?
