Hi,

After a recent 640 mg dose of DXM polistirex, I noticed a marked darkening of the already-present circles under under my eyes. It was somewhat disturbing, but not much worse than it was before.

Several days ago, I thought I would try an ultra-low (28 mg) daily dose of DXM poly to manage my depression without the unwanted side effects of taking a larger dose. It actually started to help, but four days into this regimen, I noticed a very disturbing change in the appearance of my eyes: the dark circles had become much worse, and my eyes now have a distinct, sunken appearance to them, especially on either side of the bridge of my nose under the brow line.

I drink alcohol 5-6 days a week, enough to get buzzed. I smoke cigarettes, smoke pot when I have it (I haven't lately), and take Remeron and Lamotrigine for my depression/bipolar disorder. I get adequate sleep and drink plenty of water.

Will my eyes return to normal if I quit drinking alcohol? I heard that alcohol can lend a sunken appearance to the eyes, as can DXM. I have already stopped taking my daily dose of DXM 3 days ago, and plan to flush the rest down the toilet very soon.

What kinds of supplements can I take to make the dark circles and sunken look go away? Thanks in advance!

I don't know the exact reason, but I know for a fact that all of those substances give you the dark, sunken in eyes by themselves. Could be physiology (as I know plenty of people who live similar lifestyles and this doesn't happen to them), or it could simply be the poor quality of sleep you're getting from doing all those substances (quantity is not as important as quality of sleep IME). It just happens to some people, myself included. Hell, I only smoke weed these days and i exercise 10-15 hours a week but my eyes still look like they belong to a fucking crack head.

Bottom line- vitamins, drug abstinence, sleep, and exercise would probably clear it up rather quickly. it goes away within a week or so if i do the above consistently.

Yep. I have the sunken eyes with dark circles, due to a lack of all of the above. :\

btw OP, any decent multivitamin will do. I like optimum nutrition's "opti-men", but there are other cheaper ones that are about as effective.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I think I will quit drinking alcohol altogether, and try to smoke fewer cigarettes. I've got some multivitamins and will take them regularly, and will also try to get more exercise. I think I get enough sleep, since I do get some good dreaming time. I don't want to quit smoking pot.

I feel like the sunken appearance of my eyes is a bad sign. It's rather scary to see myself this way, and I really hope I can turn this around. I'm only 32; not nearly old enough to be looking this way :S

^LOL, then I must really have something to worry about. I'm only 22 and only smoke weed. =D

Basically every unhealthy habit that you listed will contricute to the circles under your eyes, but I find that dxm and other cold medicines are notorious for this...one small dose of dxm will make me look shitty for 24 hours.

Maybe it was the combination of low-dose DXM and moderate drinking, but my eyes still look quite bad, and it's been well over 24 hours. I just hope there isn't something worse going on. I did notice dehydration last night. I couldn't make adequate saliva while I was sleeping, and I lost sleep because I was constantly drinking water.

Best thing I can do now is keep doing the right things and try not to worry about it :\
