Hello, I'm a new member and need some advice. Does anyone have a preference on Suboxone or Clonodine as a drug of choice when coming off the opiates? I had my first day of outpatient rehab today. My counselor told me about getting on a suboxone program. However, a few people in the group told me they recommended being put on Clonodine instead. What is the best situation for me? I hate when I am physically withdrawing from not having opiates it is so uncomfortable! Please help! Thank you and God bless

im not familiar with these drugs, but know many here are, youll get some answers/experiences here in TDS, but in the meantime, use our search engine; you can do specific searches that will pull up what youre looking for, and then some.
;)

i would say good luck and all that, but, really handle your time wisely and keep asking/educating and youll get there.
thats guaranteed.
this will end eventually one way or another.

remembering exactly what an incredible pain this is later though, thats the tricky part.

These two are very different substances. Suboxone serves as an opiate replacement. At the right dose it will keep you from feeling any WD, and also block other opiates, you will have to taper off the sub and then go through a longer but less intense suboxone withdrawal if done right.

Clonodine is not an opiate but is BP medication and will only make your WD slightly more bearable. I'd advise doing a search, there's tons of info out there.

i think you should get one months supply of subs and only take them for the week you need to detox and then cold turkey it. if you have the psychological strength to not need the opiate blocker....from what i read subs are more of a bitch to come off of them opes

try looking up kratom as many people on here say it works wonders for opiate w/d

If you truly want to get clean, get some benzos or clonidine. I'm going through suboxone withdrawals right now, day 7?...or something, lack of sleep has messed up my timeline. But anyway, the clonidine will help with the chills/sweats, which to a lot people is the most unbearable part of withdrawals (at least for me anyway). You will definitely feel uncomfortable, but not nearly as long as you would coming off the subs. I got off at .25 mgs, maybe less, and I still feel like crap. Constantly cold, then hot as hell, skin is crawling, can't eat, can't sleep.

I am a firm believer that Suboxone is more for people who are/were HEAVILY into opiates. Heavily meaning a 2-5 bags/day of H, 160+mgs of Oxy daily. If you're mentally prepared to quit, then get the clonidine or benzos. But just to reiterate, suboxone withdrawals are A LOT longer than fast-acting, short-lived opiates. Good luck my friend.

EDIT: Okay actually I'm going to have to agree with Oatmeal. If you do get on Subs, make sure you start off LOW, that is so important. I started off at 2mgs when I had a 300+mgs Oxy + H habit and it kept my withdrawals at bay. If your doctor tries to start you off at something ridiculous like 8mgs twice a day, tell him/her to fuck themselves. They know nothing of the drug. If you happen to start off at 4 mgs or so, try and go as long as possible (2-3 days) between doses. I know that sounds ridiculous, but suboxone has a really really long half-life. My biggest mistake was taking my suboxone daily, but when I took it in the morning, I wasn't even feeling bad. It was all mental. Gradually move down to 1mg within a couple of days and then .5mgs, then .25mgs. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me or just ask here.

^^^ exactly...use very low dose of subs and it goes a lot further.

2-2.5mgs will hold me for 24 hours sometimes more and i have a pretty high tolerance.

i never do more than a qtr of a 8mg sub at a time...insuffalted however. which increases the bioavailability.

agree totally with MOM

You can't compare then 2. Ive taken clonidine but not buprenorphine the opioid in suboxone and it helps abit but on it's own not that much. Ive found clonidine helps a good bit when i take it with a benzo, some kind of sleeping pill, a anti-nausea drug, lopermide and codeine.

So it can aid in opioid withdrawals but on it's own i did not find it to work that well especially for severe WD.

Well said! With suboxone, there is some sort of a paradoxical effect, meaning less is more. I honestly feel 1000000000000 times better on 1mg of sub than 8. It's really weird. Just be careful please :! !! You don't want to raise your tolerance even more with the subs.
