I quit methadone a month ago and went on heroin/fentanyl. I stopped that and after 3 days of hell i picked up again today. It seems like with methadone even a slow taper leaves me feeling sick and no sleep and i have relapsed twice because of this.

I have enough for a week or 2, i'm trying to use the least possible amount and i really want to be clean. I have heard that a suboxone taper doesn't make you as sick but wondering if that's true ?

Has anyone failed with methadone but had success with suboxone?

This thread especially the first and last posts and the linked article hopefully will be helpful. Godspeed

A lot of people do find buprenorphine milder to taper off than methadone... But you're talking about a self-administered Suboxone taper, correct? Doing a blind taper through a methadone clinic can make it quite a bit easier in terms of psychological aspects (e.g., psychosomatic withdrawal symptoms, temptations to take extra, etc.).

Personally, when coming off a substantial IV heroin habit the last time, transitioning directly onto buprenorphine was a rough experience. After a week, I was sick of the chills and the insomnia and (especially) the raging emotions, so just went back to dope. Next time, I'm planning to step down to a more manageable tolerance first using methadone (or something similar) and then switch over to buprenorphine (after getting into real withdrawals).

No i would get the clinic doctor to help I was figuring a few days of subs then taper of of them. I really want to be clean but don't want to go on Methadone so that's why i figured subs is the best option .

Thanks for all your replies and keep them coming :)
