Recruiting Study: Worlds of experience and information behavior in recreational drug use

Dear Bluelight-Community,

my name is Jennifer Uhl and I am a research assistant at the Sigmund Freud University in Vienna. As part of our research focus, we conduct studies on the topic of recreational drug use.

We are currently working on a new study on the topic of “Worlds of experience, information behavior and acceptance-oriented approaches to health promotion in the area of recreational drugs”. In addition to removing taboos from the topic of recreational drug use, the main objective is to derive consumer-oriented and acceptance-oriented options for improving health.

The data is collected via an online questionnaire (duration approx. 25-30 minutes), which records socio-demographic data as well as consumer behavior and emotional experiences, including mood and dealing with emotions. This study is open to anyone who is at least 18 years old.

The protection of anonymity is a top priority for us - therefore no data that could be used to identify a specific person is collected as part of this study. The study was also submitted to an ethics committee (Faculty psychotherapy science, psychology, law at the Sigmund Freud University Vienna) and received ethical approval.

Your support by participating in the study would greatly help us to better understand the subjective experiences, needs and opportunities in the context of recreational drug use and to continue our research on this basis.

Information on the study:

A close relationship between people and the consumption of various psychoactive substances has been evident since the beginning of time and continues to this day.

As part of the research project “Worlds of experience, information behavior and acceptance-oriented approaches to health promotion in the area of recreational drugs”, an online survey is being conducted aimed at recreational drug users. In addition to the topic of consumption behavior, data on emotional competencies (e.g. emotional state, dealing with one's own emotions) will be collected.

The aim of the study is to remove taboos from the topic of recreational drug use and, above all, to derive consumer-oriented, acceptance-oriented options for improving health in recreational drug use. Your answers will contribute to a better understanding of subjective experiences as well as individual needs and possibilities and to further research accordingly.


Survey duration: approx. 25-30 minutes

Annex: Legal basis for the processing

Your data is collected for research projects carried out by Sigmund Freud University, Freudplatz 1, 1020 Vienna, contact: [email protected], as the controller.

The personal data are processed on the basis of the declaration of consent for the overriding legitimate interest of the SFU (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f and Art. 9 para. 2 lit. j DSGVO).

Annex: Definitions

“Personal data”

means any information relating to an identified or identifiable natural person (hereinafter “data subject”) in accordance with Art. 4 No. 1 DSGVO. An identifiable natural person is one who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by reference to an identifier such as a name, an identification number, location data, an online identifier or to one or more factors specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity of that natural person.

“Special categories”

of personal data are data revealing racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, or trade union membership, as well as the processing of genetic data, biometric data for the purpose of uniquely identifying a natural person, data concerning health or data concerning a natural person's sex life or sexual orientation, in accordance with Art. 9 para. 1 DSGVO.

“Pseudonymization”

is the processing of personal data in such a manner that the personal data can no longer be attributed to a specific data subject without the use of additional information, provided that such additional information is kept separately and is subject to technical and organizational measures to ensure that the personal data are not attributed to an identified or identifiable natural person.
