Has any one here ever done a Study Abroad program? If you, how was it and where'd ya go? I've been looking into several of them personally, there's so many options. Pretty dead set on going somewhere in Southeast Asia.

I really want to do a study abroad program before I graduate... I would love to go to France to improve my French so I could succesfully communicate with the other half of my family. But I haven't been able to find any through my school that allow you to live on your own while you're there (or in my case with my family) and I can't afford it otherwise. 
I did a study abroad program where I lived in Cuernavaca, Mexico for about 20 days. Airfare, a room with a host family, the school I went to, and 3 home cooked meals a day came to about 1700$.
I was scared shitless and I ended up pushing myself to do it, in the end, it was the most AMAZING experience I've ever had in my life.
I couldn't understand 30% of what the host family said to me, except their hot daughter, who spoke english quite well. I spent nights mingling with locals drinking beer at clubs watching live bands doing crappy covers of american songs. Really, it is an AMAZING experience.
Check through your local community college, they offer ones that are usually much cheaper than whatever university you are attending. All europe and asia travels are much more expensive. The Mexico ones are great if you can speak enough spanish to get around safely (Although I wouldn't go to Mexico anymore if you haven't been).

do it, do it, do it. I chose a highly insulated, very unique northern european country for my experience, and it was a shock to my system for the entire year. Just looking around the city, checking out the fashions, hanging around the people and experiencing a world apart from my own is something that I don't regret a second of. I could have gone to somewhere popular like Italy, UK, France, etc, but I wanted to see a culture that had a unique mixture of Finnish, Swedish, and RUssian culture still developing. Very, very cool - anywhere you choose to go is good, just do it.
Sounds like a blast captainballs. I would strongly recomend not going for a year though your first time, unless you really don't have anything at home that you will miss. There are programs ranging from a few weeks to a few months at most Community Colleges and Universities that are great for a "first trip". I feel that had I spent any more time than I did I would've gotten very homesick, but now I would want to do it again and go for a few months.
