okay so i picked up wet (ish, i didnt pick them but the guy sold them to me and theyre moist) shrooms last night. theyre in a plastic baggy as of now in my stash. theres already some water that has evaporated out of the shrooms. im planning to hold onto them until friday. is mold going to be a problem? i cant store in the fridge, because im in a dorm and classes are almost out so inspection will be anytime and my roommate is antidrugs anyways.

thanks!

GET THEM OUT OF THE PLASTIC BAG IMMEDIATELY. RIGHT NOW.

wet mushrooms at room temperature in a sealed plastic bag will get 'funky' from mold mildew and bacteria faster than you can say "whoops"

you need to do one of the following:
1) paper bag in the refrigerator, they should keep 2-4 days fresh
2) MOST IDEAL: thoroughly dry them with a cool fan until they snap and crumble when bent by hand. this is called "cracker dry" and will keep for several months.

depends on the relative humidity and temperature where you're at-- as long as it's not florida during the summer it should take 1-2 days. the first day they will get almost completely dry, and you can finish them off in a container with dessicant (any of the following will work: silica gel, damp-rid, anhydrous magnesium sulfate)

okay well i decided against waiting so im gonna eat them tonight.

only one problem one mushroom is almost straight up black. is it safe to eat? i have a pic of it next to a shroom in better condition from the same sack.

if they are wild-picked, black can mean the mushroom got frozen (all cells exploded, basically the most intense blueing possible, safe to eat) but seeing as it's probably not freezing anywhere these got picked, it sounds like bacterial rot. don't eat that one. it probably smells a little funky too?

Black can mean all sorts of things, you can't tell much by it unless it's gooey black.

Mushrooms can be dried just by laying them on a piece of paper at room temperature (or slightly higher). With enough ventilation to draw away the moist air they should dry out faster than they spoil, if picked recently.

At least this is the way I dry them the most part.
The last bit of moisture in them I get out with a desiccant like Drierite / calcium chloride / sodium sulphate or another salt that will absorb water readily.

All in all your story sounds like they have been in a slimey phase for too long. Look at it and smell it, a fresh mushroomy odor is of course natural for shrooms but if it has turned funky I'd throw them away if I were you. Eating bad mushrooms is sooo not worth the try!

I've stored wet shrooms in honey before. A lot of the water in the shrooms will rise to the top of the container, and you can pour that purplish liquid off and put it in some kool-aid or juice or something because it will contain some alkaloids, though most will remain in the actual mushroom IME. Also, you could dice them up very finely and just steep them in acidic fruit juice (oj, cranberry, grapefruit, etc), then filter and throw out the solids. You could also just dice and boil them in water, or slightly acidic water, and filter, saving the water for some type of drink. this would be a good idea if you're worried about possible contamination

ok this is what i understand about shrooms, correct me if im wrong. wet mushrooms are supposed to set n dry due to the alkaloids converting to a more psychoactive product (kinda like curing buds). does light affect this process? ive heard of quite a few ppl just storing them in jars in window sills

there is no such thing as 'curing' mushrooms. they have highest alkaloid content when fresh-picked, and the loss is negligible if dried quickly in a cool temperature. light and heat and time will reduce the alkaloid content.

If they're black then they've almost surely molded and are bad.

Storing wet drugs in a plastic bag is a surefire recipe for destroying them... this is true of marijuana and it's definitely true of mushrooms. You'll want to put them out between two paper towels or sheets of paper (to protect them and block the light from touching them) and blow a fan over them until they're crispy dry... 1-3 days.

ok this is what i understand about shrooms said:
Actually as they are exposed to air, some of the psilocin oxidizes which means it is destroyed. Also it is likely that some of the psilocybin (4-PO-DMT) is converted to psilocin (4-HO-DMT) as they sit, but this is a bit of a gray area I believe, and it is also a gray area as to whether psilocybin has different effects than psilocin. We know that Psilocybin is converted to psilocin in the body after ingestion, and some people claim that this means that psilocybin and psilocin have the exact same effects. Personally, due to my experience with 4-AcO-DMT (another separate ester of psilocin that is converted to psilocin in the body) and 4-HO-DMT individually as pure compounds, I believe that it's most likely that psilocybin is converted to psilocin, but that for many people, some of it crosses the blood brain barrier before conversion and produces its own unique effects.
