I currently smoke 7-10 cigs of American Spirits daily, Perique Blend (Rich Robust Blend). I was on the phone with the nice lady from Santa Fe Tobacco company, and she advised me to try to cut back and try to quit while I still can, since I've only smoked for 7 weeks now.

She advises all smokers to keep their cigarettes in the fridge, especially Perique smokers, to keep them fresh and to prevent open packs from going stale. I have 2 unopened packs of Periques in a thick freezer baggie in the fridge now, with an open pack in another baggie.

Now, my question is, is this safe from a mold-risk standpoint? I know that constantly opening and closing the fridge to get food can cause condensation to form on the inside of the cigarettes, leading to mold, and especially considering NAS cigs are additive/preservative free, are they at increased risk of mold?

I will say that they have helped keep my cigarettes fresh in this hot Valley summer (So Cal), but is it safe? I know cigarettes are carcinogenic and dangerous enough as is, I don't want to add mold to that risk...

They won't get mold, I keep all my unopened packs in the freezer when I buy cartons. It keeps them fresh

Yep put them in the freezer or fridge, they will most definitely stay fresher longer and if you smoke menthol, I personally think they taste better after being nice and cold.

I don't do it anymore since I don't buy by the carton and I'll go through a pack in 8 hours or so its not worth it for me.

The cigs are very unlikely to mold as they will have been cured as part of the tobacco drying process.
Fungi like their host to have some moisture and cigs are just too throughly dried out.
Tobacco meant for rolling homemade cigs are a different beast entirely as it tends to be fresher and less processed.
Rolling tobacco should really only be stored in the fridge if still sealed.
The freezer is a good option for brand cigs, their so dry that they dont freeze as such but stay very fresh.

If they're properly sealed, you don't have to worry about mold at all.

I would like to echo the sentiments of the lady you talked to however.. If you can, quit smoking. 7 weeks in it's painless to stop. I assure you, you will totally regret smoking a few years down the line.

Shit. You might regret it in a few months. Quit now. If you really enjoy nicotine, go with an e cig. No combustion, less nasties. Better flavor.

The freezer is fantastic, and it doesn't really affect the taste when they're frozen.
I mean I'm from canada where -40C isn't always uncommon in the winter and I leave packs in my car an they taste great, getting my lighter to light them though is a different story

if you've only been smoking for 7 weeks i'd say throw all your cigs away and quit now if you don't you could be regretting that decision untill the day you die of lung/throat/mouth cancer

Don't put cigs in freezer, it dries them. And perique spirits have literally twice as much nicotine as a Marlboro red. Quitting will be very difficult to quit, sO cut down now.
