Benzos Stopping xanaxc@ lower doses

Hello BL,

a few months ago I acquired ~50mg of Xanax with the purpose of using it as an aid for psychedelic use. To aid in easy sleep after use, or just having the peace of mind of having a benzo on hand in case a trip got out of control (which has never happnened).

when I had obtained the Xanax - I decided i should try 1 - 2mg a few times just so I could get a feel for what to expect if I were to use it. Well, to say the least I enjoyed the calming, sedative, and relaxing effects of xanax. I then started taking it rather irregularly when I just wanted to "chill" or relax which was sometimes once a week @ 1mg or maybe 2mg here and there.

Now 3 months later I have about 20mg left and I have been taking ~1-2mg a day for the past 2 weeks. Do I have a lot to worry about in terms of ceasing use? Is a 2 week use of daily xanax use @ 1-2mg enough to cause withdrawal symptoms?. I know I have been somewhat abusing this drug, which was not my intention - but I'm now aware I should REALLY only use it for what I originally sought it for - if that @ all.

What do you guys think of my situation? Could I stop abruptly? or should I taper using .5mg a day for a week or so then halfing it etc....??.

It would be a smart idea to taper to avoid rebound anxiety.... perhaps more but forsure rebound anxiety.

I have 10 X 10mg valium.

IMO you don't have to taper by taking 10 x 10mg Valium on a daily basis. Xanax is stronger compared to Valium by at least 45%. My advise to you is to take the tablet only when you need it. From your post I take it that you started taking Xanax only at the start of this month. It is still not too late for you to 'taper' down or to undergo any withdrawals.

It is a bonus that you have Valium handy. Take it when you need it. I suggest taking Valium at 5mg per dose.

Valiums main active metabolite has an extremely long half-life. Beware you will be under the effects of one dose for days, while alprazolam has one of the shortest half-lives, so for 99% of people all effects cease five hours after taking the drug.

Keep the alprazolam for a rainy day.
If you really need something to calm you down, then take 5mg diazepam at that time.
You might not need any more benzos for the "non-purpose" that you originally got them for.
Just remember your prime objective was to help with a comedown and not for everyday use.
The less you take them, the better they will work when you really need them to.

Again, rather take 5mg diazepam if you really need to and try forget about the alprazolam (keep them for the purpose you originally got them for).
