You kind of just have to ride them out, unfortunately. A benzo might help you deal with it a bit better.

Just deal with them, they won't last long. This is a common symptom of anti depressant cessation. St johns wart and 5htp usually have more of a cumulative effect overtime. I wouldn't expect them to do anything immediately.

Lay off the etiz unless you need it for sleep.

Never take benzodiazepines to stymie the withdrawal from an SRI. The brain zaps you're experiencing are common upon withdrawal from SSRIs (Zoloft, Paxil, Prozac, Luvox, etc.). The benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome is much worse than that which you would get from tramadol anyways, incorporating its mu opiate agonism and norepinepheric properties.

st johns wart if i remember right is a weak maoi and as such would take a while to have any effect.
Use a bit of etizolam is it becomes unbearable but keep doses LOW, blackout aint fun.
5-htp might help a bit with allowing your brain to produce more serotonin but unless your very experienced and knowledgeable about the serotonin receptors system....i would just ride it out. F'ing up your serotonin system is very bad news.lol

Is this the same kind of zaps one would get upon MDMA cessation after prolonged abuse? If so, I had this bad a few years back and it subsided after about 3 weeks. I remember people trying to convince me SRI's create holes in the brain and that was the reasoning behind it... Paah, sounds likely eh!?

"holes in the brain"lol i remember when the rumour was that LSD causes holes in the brain.lmao
The only thing i know of that causes anything like that are certain diseases (most of them very rare) and bullets.
Whether these brain zaps are the same as the ones you get after stopping MDMA, ive no idea. But both anti-depressants and MDMA affect serotonin in the brain. However they do it in distinctly different ways and MDMA affects a number of different receptors, so comparing the two is probably just going to confuse the issue.
Studies are on going into the longterm effects of stopping anti-depressant treatment and its only in recent years that the pharma companies have admitted that these problems exist. Also, the effects of anti-d's on the brain are still not completely understood (much like MDMA).
'Brain zaps' could be due to many different reasons but remember that tramadols AD effects are weak and ive never heard of its adverse WD effects lasting longterm or becoming dangerous.
Best advice is to lay off the drugs til it passes, eat healthy (bananas are good), live healthy and try not to let it stress you out too much.
