Stimulant medication from India to treat low blood pressure??

Hi,

I've got friends who where in India about 6 months ago that found medication sold in chemists to 'treat' low blood pressure.

It was definatly a stimulant, and they were sure it was methamphetamine based or at least very similar.

Anyone heard of anything that might be used for this purpose?
 
Apparently Effortil is an adrenergic agonist that appears to interact with beta-2 and some alpha adrenergic receptors--it has been used as a vasoconstrictor agent. It seems to be used for preventing syncope and to deflate over-potentiated prolonged penis priaprism during surgery and/or viagra.

So I don't think that it is a useful central amphetamine, unless it is actually (l)-methamphetamine, an amphetamine with all of the noradrenergic side-effects of a regular amphetamine, but none of the fun.
 
I talked to my friends on the weekend that had been on the trip. They said it was called something like...

Meffin?, Methyn? or Methin?

Now these are the brand names for what they got from the Indian chemist. I can't find any chemicals corresponding to those names

Anyone else got any other ideas??
 
Theodrenaline, Cafedrine, Etilefrin, Mephentermine....

Or maybe it's just Ephedrine or Phenylpropanolamine....
 
Pretty sure that Mephentermine is the one. It is basically an amphetamine right? although from what I have read it stimulates beta adrenergic receptors and alpha to a lesser extent by releasing noradrenaline.

From this can I assume it dose not release dopamine?

Methphentermine/Mephentermine is not the same than Methamphetamine.
Mephentermine is to Phentermine what Methamphetamine is to Amphetamine.

PHENTERMINE
α, α-dimethylphenethylamine

MEPHENTERMINE
N, α, α-trimethylphenethylamine

AMPHETAMINE
α-methylphenethylamine

METHAMPHETAMINE
N, α-dimethylphenethylamine

Mephentermine is the N-methylated derivative of Phentermine, just like Methamphetamine is the N-methylated derivative of Amphetamine.
