hi guyz

I recently started taking St. John's Wort caps for mild depression (for my anxiety, I have Valium that i'm starting to taper down :| i also quit Zolpidem a couples days ago) and, browsing Erowid St. John's Wort section I found some TR ( http://www.erowid.org/experiences/subs/exp_St_Johns_Wort.shtml ) about people getting a relaxing "high" from STW tea. I didn't find any TR on bluelight, tried SJW and Hypericum, nothing..
I'm sure there are threads about this, but St. John's Wort is kinda hard to write down so people could have make threads with a misleading title.

Anyway , I made this thread in hope that somebody who successfully got a mild high/relaxation (that's just what I need) from St. John's Wort.
This thread is not about the antidepressants/long term properties of this plant, for this I'll see if it works...

I have "hydroalcoolique dry extract" , 250mg by pill.

Thanks in advance if anybody can inform me on that. :)

saint johns wart is a CYP 3A4 inhibitor so you may be getting "high" from the valuim because SJW would make the Val STronger .. So by lowering your dose and taking SJW you are really just staying at a level mabye even higher VAL BLOOD LEVEL serum dose..

Dont get your hopes up for "a mild high and relaxation" from St. Johns Wort. I swear I have tried it in every dose level there is, mixed with every possible potentiator, and ingested in every form, and I have yet to experience anything resembling a "high" or "relaxation"....in fact, I really dont feel much at all when I take it.

I have noticed though that you feel more of "something" after you consistently take it for atleast a couple weeks. But you still dont really feel much.....its kind of like SSRI anti depressants....it "might" help your mood, but it takes a while to even have noticeable effects, but even then your not even sure if its doing anything. Honestly, even if the effects I got from the strongest experience with St, Johns Wort I have had to date were doubly as strong as they actually were, I would still think that it was more than likely a placebo effect....thats how weak this stuff is.

But, I have had luck with high dose Valerian Root. I have the 450mg pills that you are suppose to take up to 3 of them to help you relax or sleep. Instead I take anywhere from 6-12 of them and it almost always gives me minor relaxing qualities(sometimes more than minor), but one thing I can ALWAYS count on when taking valerian root is having EXTREMELY lucid, realistic, intense, acid trip-like, dreams. The more I take, the more intense the dreams are.....and im not kidding when I say they are "acid trip-like"(I hope you know what an acid trip is like).....I mean, they are SO realistic and they are sooo weird sometiems(as most dreams are)...its quite a fun experience. Of course, I may enjoy this bit more than other people because I wasnt able to "remember" any dreams I ever had until the age of 16. Literally, I just always though that I never had a dream until I found out that you always dream, you just sometiems dont remember it. But im still sure ANYONE would enjoy these "valerian dreams", not jsut me.

Im sry for talking so long.....but yeah, I would reccommend valerian root if you want "sedating", "relaxing" qualities.......that is only if you dont have access to benzos, opiates, or similar herbs/extracts such as kratom or kava kava.

Thx everybody for your answers!

That would be good. I know that some benzos as xanax are affected by the CYP2D6 and CYP3A4 enzymes, but for Valium I not completly sure. Thank you for your input :)

Awww :( I was kinda expecting that, but since I have read that it could be possible, I though I might as well ask here.. I also have kava to mix with it, don't know if it will change much...
But I can totally relate to that part:

I always (as far as I can remember) had very realistic lucid dreams, and with valerian it was incredible. Like you said, the acid trip is a pretty good comparison. It was so crazy that I couldn't get some real sleep so I ended up giving my Valerian pills to a friend ^_^

Yea sry, I even have a few bottles of St. Johns Wort right here on my desk that ive had forever. And trust me, im the kind of guy who would do ANYTHING to get a high and feel something more interesting or pleasurable than normal life....and yet I am still not interested in the Wort.....it just doesnt do anything. These bottles would be long gone if they had even the tiniest potential to get me high, relax me, or even just make me feel a little less stressed.

St. Johns wort has unmistakable mood-stabilizing/anti-anxiety properties (at around 2.7+ mg of hypericin). Best formulation in my opinion are the capsules with a standardized amount of hypericin per pill .

However, I've never gotten sedative effects from St. Johns Wort, although I've used it semi-regularly for a number of years now. I would guess the sedative effects are due to valium, or perhaps the fact that you associate sedation with anxiety releif.

Well, ive used even more than that amount of hypericin for several weeks at a time and really didnt notice any "mood stabilizing" or "anti-anxiety" properties at all. I guess everyone is different. Also, I WAS using the capsules with a standardized amount of hypericin in each pill. "Natures Bounty Standardized Extract: Double Strength".

Thx again for your answers guys =)

Well I didn't end up taking à bunch of them at once (just one pill this morning, and one at noon (+ one later tonight), as "prescribed"), since it seems pointless... I'll just keep on taking it as an antidepressant and see how I feel in a couple of weeks.

Monday I'm going to buy some Damiana (to make some tea) at the local headshop, maybe with some passiflore and valériane, it should make the benzo taper easier. :\

could it have been the type of brand you used?
