I'm aware of the hesitance of the BL staff to create new forums that they see as not needed, and I'm also aware that a similar idea to this has been suggested in the past.

However, with TV&Film receiving it's own seperate forum, and getting a moderate amount of traffic, I'd find it to be excellent to have a seperate forum for the world of Sports, Athletics, Video Gaming of all sorts, Gambling, Card Games, Board Games, and everything along the such.

There already are a good amount of such threads floating around the lounge. While the lounge is for lighthearted, off topic discussion only for the most part, it's my belief that many of the subjects I suggested have serious discussion that go alongside with them. With a new forum, one would be able to delve deeper into a particular sport, or gaming system, other than one broad thread to cover it all.

Threads could be posted to cover release of upcoming video games, to discuss upcoming sporting events, to cover debateable trades between teams, tips for training for particular athletic events, discussing tips and tricks to certain casino games.. roulette, craps, etc etc.

If lack of interest and traffic is a worry, I'm confident that such a forum would rival, if not exceed the traffic that TV&Film receives. This wouldn't just be a sports forum as suggested before, but rather a forum that covers a wide range of all things involving leisure, sports, and gaming. If such a forum is created, there would be inspiration for more discussion of such topics, as it would pique BL'ers interests, and give them a forum to feel free to discuss matters, rather than confining them to the few allowed threads in The Lounge.

While the foundation of this community was and always will be Harm Reduction, I believe that BL has grown into so much more, and as it's diversity continues to grow, I sincerely believe the addition of such a forum as this one would be a valuable, and useful addition.
 
i think there's a need. check out the popularity of the baseball thread, countless fantasy one's., and one about every other sport. i could go on and on but dave made a good enough arguement on his on.
 
I think that's a great idea. Just call it Games and Gaming.
 
So long as the discussion is a serious thread about games/gaming/gambling/sport, these threads are always welcome in Second Opinion.

S/O is the 'serious' spin-off to the lounge and many people don't realise that the forum is not just for asking advice, but also for sharing information and discussion any social topics (such as gaming, etc) in a serious manner :)

Right, but couldn't we just do the same thing with all things involving SL&R, and TV&Film as well? :)

I believe the subject matter that would be included in the "Games and Gaming" forum, as Spinks put it, would be of enough volume that it would be suffice to say it'd warrant it's own forum.

Seeing such a forum would encourage much more discussion on the said subject matter. I'm quite certain of it. :)
 
i figured someone would mention something like second opinion. however, i still think threads concerning sports and such are better suited in the lounge... or better yet, better suited in their OWN forum.

its obvious there is a ton of interest in sports, leisure, gaming, and gambling throughout the bluelight community. the subjects are often mentioned in bluelight journals as well.

many other message boards have separate forums for such subject matters. bluelight is certainly large enough and popular enough to handle a forum that would deal with the above mentioned subjects. i know it would definitely serve as an invitation for me to discuss the subjects in more detail.

Perhaps. I'm not against the creation of it, I'm simply pointing out that there is a forum in existance where these threads can be created without them having the crap that gets posted in them in the lounge.
 
^I agree. :)

I believe, though, that similar with SL&R, and TV&FIlm, there is enough interest, and enough subject matter to validate the addition of a forum solely to cater to these topics.
 
Are there enough current threads to warrant it, though? It might be worth your while to compile a list of threads that have been active in the past 14 days that would fall into the category.

It is unlikely that a new forum will be created because of the threads that could be started on the subject matter, they are generally created because of the topics that are or have been.

I'd be interested to see how many are out there, because S/O and the Lounge would be the two places I would most expect them to be started, and I've barely seen any in S/O.

I see your points, Rocka. These are things that have been mentioned before on the board (and in MPC). Although you're gonna bust my balls for saying this, I think with each addition of non-drug discussion forums it takes away from this site's purpose and goal. Yes, you can aruge that Film & Television, Words, SLR, Second Opinion are not necessarily "drug related" but must the board fall further away from the topic?

I just dont see how much traffic a sports could possibly generate, also. How many sports topics are in the lounge, just a handful? A football thread, a baseball thread, a hockey thread, etc, etc... I just dont see the immediate need for a forum only for sports.

I lurk on a site that covers many of the things you listed: Gaming, Sports, Movies and Television, Athletics, and all sorts of cool techie computer shit. Basically everything minus the gambling. If you like, I'll give you the address to look at and post at if you like. Maybe watch the forums there and see how their sports forums barely survive. I rarely see a topic on gaming or gambling, maybe I've just missed the "ton" of posts on the matter. :\

wasnt college and university just added? as well as "homeless threads"...
 
homeless threads is simply a place for people to post a thread if they do not know where it belongs so as it can be redirected, dreamgirlie - it is not a "forum" of threads, but rather, a forum of redirects.
 
I agree with there not being a huge demand for Steroid talk around here. But Steroids do fall under the drug realm, and Im sure there is some harm to be reduced there.

And yes, the College & University forum was added recently. What was the point of asking that?

If the worry is to simply stay on topic of harm reduction, we really shouldn't have a TV&Film.. a College and Uni.. they're just as relevent as Sports and Gambling, IMO.

If I recall correctly, one of the great things about BL is that it doesn't JUST focus on Harm Reduction. It's a community. THere are people who come here JUST for SL&R, or JUST for Music&DJ's. THere are people who come here and have no interest in drugs what so ever.

And furthermore, BA, I don't see the use for "Tons" in reguard to posts on the matter. :) I never used that word, and quoting it is unnecessary. Did you see as many posts related to TV and/or Movies in the Lounge, as there are now in that forum? Likely, you didn't. The creation of the forum invited and opened up more discussion on the subject matter.

I'd see this forum as not necessarily a way to stash away all the related threads that are in relation to Sports&Gambling, and the like.. but as a way to continue to diversify the community, and allow those with such interests to have a forum to their own in which they can discuss the topics a bit more freely.
