Bluelighter
I hope this thread belongs in Bluelight, being a harm reduction forum, and everywhere I ask I find only "u need 2 quit omg" and everywhere I search links to cessation websites.
I smoke about two or three cigarettes on most days but I can go through almost half a pack or so at a party and I dip about twice a day. I've been smoking for about a year and dipping for about 6 months. I know my vices and I try to deal with them responsibly. Everywhere I look for specific advice on how to keep good oral hygiene while using tobacco directs me only towards cessation websites and gives not legitimate advice on harm reduction (something I personally think is underrepresented in society -- there are always going to be smokers/drinkers/drug-users, while cessation is always the final goal, they might as well use it in as safe a way as possible). Here are a few specific questions:
-Is "straight" (unflavored) dipping tobacco better for your mouth than flavored? (I've been told, through someone I'm not sure can back it up that Wintergreen and other minty flavors are the worst for gum recession).
-Does dry mouth (brought on by prescription amphetamines) synergize to make really bad teeth?
-What are ways to fight of that dry mouth; vitamins, specific oral products, etc.? (I chew a lot of sugar-free minty gum -- like a pack a day sometimes lol and drink a ton of water but it doesn't always work to keep constant saliva build up)
-How to control the taste of cigarettes? (nobody notices except my girlfriend but there's absolutely nothing sexy about the taste of stale cigarettes)
-Good ways to prevent/reduce tartar build up and tooth staining from smoking
What other advice can you give me? Thank you very much for any responses!
