I hope this thread belongs in Bluelight, being a harm reduction forum, and everywhere I ask I find only "u need 2 quit omg" and everywhere I search links to cessation websites.

I smoke about two or three cigarettes on most days but I can go through almost half a pack or so at a party and I dip about twice a day. I've been smoking for about a year and dipping for about 6 months. I know my vices and I try to deal with them responsibly. Everywhere I look for specific advice on how to keep good oral hygiene while using tobacco directs me only towards cessation websites and gives not legitimate advice on harm reduction (something I personally think is underrepresented in society -- there are always going to be smokers/drinkers/drug-users, while cessation is always the final goal, they might as well use it in as safe a way as possible). Here are a few specific questions:

-Is "straight" (unflavored) dipping tobacco better for your mouth than flavored? (I've been told, through someone I'm not sure can back it up that Wintergreen and other minty flavors are the worst for gum recession).
-Does dry mouth (brought on by prescription amphetamines) synergize to make really bad teeth?
-What are ways to fight of that dry mouth; vitamins, specific oral products, etc.? (I chew a lot of sugar-free minty gum -- like a pack a day sometimes lol and drink a ton of water but it doesn't always work to keep constant saliva build up)
-How to control the taste of cigarettes? (nobody notices except my girlfriend but there's absolutely nothing sexy about the taste of stale cigarettes)
-Good ways to prevent/reduce tartar build up and tooth staining from smoking

What other advice can you give me? Thank you very much for any responses!

A dry mouth isn't good for bad teeth, as saliva is, among other things, meant to cleanse.

I don't think you can really control the taste of cigs other than to smoke it with something else or not taste it.

Rise with mouthwash, floss, brush your teeth twice a day, and always make sure you brush/floss after your last tobacco use.

Good luck.

really the best oral hygiene if one is going to dip (i do love me some copenhagen now and then) is by brushing your teeth and using mouthwash after. same goes with smoking, tbh, but most people find it a great inconvenience to brush after every smoke...plus depending on how much one smokes, your mouth would be wrecked from constant brushing. lol. 8)

I'm starting to think sticking a travelsized bottle of mouthwash and some of those tiny ass disposable toothbrushes in my pocket or bag might be a good idea. I've already got a thing of floss floating around in my bag.

Any idea of how significant of an impact those quick brushes/washes/flossings will have or if it's basically a cleanliness thing as opposed to health.

i doubt it. i still smoke cigs. sometimes but i mostly smoke vapor cigs now. the front of my teeth are clean as a whistle, now, and i smoke tons of bud...but the back of my front teeth is super duper brown and yellow due to exhaling tobacco smoke?

Aite just brush yer teeth once in the mornin once at nite and yer good. If ya want more go for 3 brushes a day and brush after lunch. Ya can't do much more.

Straight dip isn't unflavored. That's natural. Copenhagen grizzly or any straight dip has a sweet flavor to it. Copenhagen long cut is natual its good an salty.

Dippn worse for ya then smokin when it comes to mouth health. Man just stick with one cigs or dip. Shit I'm bout to pack a fat lipper in of some grizz mint.

^That's contentious, but I love me some grizzly; my personal preference is wintergreen. Salivation and water both have their pluses; in general, saliva is probably better.
