Sorry your thread isn't generating responses. I guess everyone is too busy getting stoned. When I'm feeling particularly down from drug use I like to put on some Matt & Kim. Very uplifting music with good beats, good attitude and demeanor. Even at my most down I can't help but bop my head a little bit to their tunes.

Drugs have ruined so many Bands/Songs for me, it totally sucks. I can't listen to DJ Shadow, Queens of the Stone Age, Rage Against the Machine, Tool, Sublime, old school Incubus, and Chemical Brothers w/o awakening crystal/cocaine cravings. Those bands and stimulants will forever be connected in my sub-concious.

When I'm w/o opiates (my DOC) I just can't listen to Pink Floyd (who happen to be my favorite band), Miles Davis, Pinback, and Massive Attack.

When I'm w/o drugs or trying to stay away from drugs (which always leaves me pretty bleak) I like some of Lennon's music, especially the song "Cold Turkey", it's comforting that such a great man felt the pain I'm feeling. I also enjoy Steve Earls' "OxyContin Blues". The Chili Peppers' "Under the Bridge" is another comforting, albeit extremely sad song that deals with the subject. Somehow I take a lot of strength from these songs, knowing I'm not alone, how some one out there understands me, even if they don't know me personally.

I also recommed Macklemore, he's a pretty dec rapper that has been through it all and has come out of it trying to motivate others.

I agree that pretty much everything reminds me of some kind of experience related to drugs. Sometimes it gets me down other times it makes me happy. You cant control what thoughts come in to your mind, but if you can manage to control how you react to them thats all that really matters. You just have to tell yourself that was in the past, all the feelings the music is evoking is just a memory of how you were then not a reflection of how you are today. To quote The Shining, those bad feelings are like pictures in a book... They cant hurt you unless you yourself decide to lend them that power.

I think its helpful to continually try to explore new music, new bands, etc and form new more positive connections. If you are looking for something more overt, theres a whole world of straight edge music out there. Some good some bad, just like every other type of music, but it really does help some people. Good luck.

Music while withdrawling

Not sure if this belongs in this forum, MODS feel free to move if necessary. Just wondering if anyone had any artists and /or songs that they listen to constantly while withdrawling from any drugs, (mine being opiates). One of the BEST song, IMO to be ever written about being in that lifestyle and getting out, is a song titled "Orange" by the band Another Breath. They're a hardcore band, but i highly suggest everyone to check this song out and really read and/or listen to the lyrics. (Also they're other material is great.) Don't mind the stupid image during the whole song lol

Uplifting piano music always helped me
Especially a lot of Radiohead

Even old blues are good too

Some sad songs seem to help too for some reason
Especially women singers like Chan Marshall from Cat Power, St Vincent, or Shara Worden from My Brightest Diamond

My Brightest Diamond - Feeling Good

Blind Willie Johnson - Dark was the Night Cold was the Ground

Thom Yorke - How I Made my Millions

clean like off of hard drugs and shitty ROAs? well. ANY MUSIC I LISTEN TO BECAUSE IT'S ALL GREAT. I HAVE GREAT TASTE. FUCK.
i mean music has been my ramshackle religion, bff, church, etc. since i was a kid. music in my ears. as often as possible. music loud as fuck at a show. mindless music moments. always positive never negative. it's as harmless as sucking my thumb except for the hearing damage and fucking musicians.

the reggae dark side of the moon/ sgt peppers hearts club band.
the grateful dead (the spacier trippy half of the songs)
Beck
Ravi Shankar
Simon and Garfunkel

I absolutely love music, but IME music and withdrawal don't mix. It's too emotionally charged for me in that vulnerable state. The last time I kicked I just listened to droning talk radio stations.
